Geneva County, AL Sheriff Tony Helms recent letter to citizens urging them to arm themselves in the wake of mass shootings and Muslim terrorist attacks in America is being met with an almost 100% positive response.

On Thursday, citizens were in line at the Sheriff's Office to apply for their Alabama Pistol Permit, of which Alabama offers reciprocity in Florida and 23 other states.

"I thought long and hard and prayed about it," said Sheriff Helms. "I'm not trying to scare people. I'm just trying to get people to understand that we live in a different world, a different time now."

Several residents, who agreed to speak publicly but did not want to be identified by name, said they felt like the Sheriff is on the right track.

One resident, who works in the health care industry, said she supports the Sheriff. "He seems to be on top of things and paying attention to whats really going on in the community and how people really feel. In this age of political correctness, some people seem to forget that God gave us the right to protect ourselves."

Another woman said she didn't need a firearm. "I don't need no rifle. I got God. Nothing is gonna happen to me. I aint scared of nobody or nothing."

Many agree and support the Sheriff's decision. Social media and web pages are filled with comments commending the Sheriff. "I've received some blowback," said Helms." "But, overall, the response has been overwhelmingly positive."

A Texas police chief has warned people in his town to prepare themselves: "Be ready when the wolf comes to the door, because it's on its way."

Sheriff Helms joins a chorus of law enforcement officials who are breaking with Washington and urging residents to be prepared to defend themselves with firearms if necessary. Brevard County, FL Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Washington, DC Chief of Police Cathy Lanier and others have called for citizens to arm themselves and be prepared to use force if necessary to protect themselves and others until police can respond.

Residents of Geneva County can pick up a Pistol Permit Application at the Geneva County Courthouse in downtown Geneva. Permits are $20 and are good for 1 year.

Well at least he prayed about it first. Do the ammosexuals really believe it's God's will for them to have guns? This is similar to the prosperity gospel preachers who convince people that it's God's will they hoard money.

In a region known for hunting and sport shooting, south Alabama and the Florida panhandle is prime NRA country. However, you are more likely to see an AR-15 or other tactical rifle in a vehicle these days just as often as shotguns or a deer rifle.

Concerned over the rise in terrorist attacks and mass shootings across America, local residents are heeding the advice of numerous law enforcement officials and stocking up on the popular AR-15 rifle, ammunition and handguns for their own protection - and of their families.

Lothar Newsome, owner of Enforcement Firearms in downtown DeFuniak Springs, says he can hardly keep up with demand. "Business has picked up considerably," said Newsome. On Friday morning, there were customers waiting outside for his store to open. In the wake of recent attacks and a presidential threat to circumvent congress to implement more gun control, gun shops across the nation are reporting low stock and difficulty in ordering from suppliers as Americans rush to stock up.

"People are finally waking up," said Newsome. " "Lots of people are scared about what's happening in the United States now. Most of our customers now are looking for personal protection."

Newsome, a U.S. Army veteran and weapons expert also holds weekly concealed carry classes for those wanting a concealed weapons permit. He said he thinks it's a very good thing people carry a weapon. "Concealed carry classes have Customers inspecting hanguns
picked up and there's more students than ever coming in and a lot more women than he had expected."

In a span of 30 minutes, Newsome's store was filled by over a dozen customers - male and female - inspecting rifles and purchasing ammunition and supplies.

One customer was a minister of a local Christian church who said he is always armed as well as numerous members of his congregation. He purchased two pistols on the spot. He was nervous about being identified but said, "Something isn't right in America. We all know it. God helps those who help themselves and I'm not helpless."
