I just can't make up my mind

This could be the most disturbing video of their career... French American Bandstand...

Could be. Syd Barrett wrote both of those before Gilmour joined...

I don't know that anybody should have an inner Syd. If they do, it will probably result in long term mental therapy. His stuff before Gilmour was just F'd up...sorry 'bout that...but it was. The further he fell into his mania the more strange the music became. Unfortunately, bad drugs tore up his brain.

Hard for me to compare the Beatles to Pink Floyd. It's like apples and oranges. They certainly did not start off on the same path (e.g.: pop for the Beatles and conceptual music for Floyd). PF moved towards mainstream starting with Metal, but I think they were still being true to themselves. The Beatles, IMHO, moved away from mainstream pop, but the difference is that they had the built in huge fan base that would follow them wherever they went. They kind of met somewhere in the middle to a degree.

RIP Richard Wright. Too bad he passed away. I don't know that there would have ever been a full scale reunion tour, but I think Gilmour and Waters had put enough of the past behind them that they could do one off shows here and there. Unfortunately, when Rick Wright passed, so, too, did that possibility.

Well then why is Roger continually trying to go there? I think Syd's music was outstanding for the first album, and obviously so did his bandmates. They could not have survived if they had kept him on, but they've never been able to dupilcate what he brought to the table. Unfortunately, neither could Syd.

I really couldn't get into anything they did before Ummagumma. And parts of that album are unlistenable. I think they really did stretch the limits of experimental music early on and then found a sound (with the addition of Gilmour) that could venture into mainstream with enough power to change our attitudes of what mainstream is.

As to the reformation of Pink Floyd, maybe they could team up with some of the leftover Beatles... Ringo could just play tambourine while Nick does all the heavy lifting. They could just put some duct tape over Rodger's mouth and have him play synthesizer and bass, somewhere behind his own Wall... it's just a thought...

"You never give me your...MONEY! it's a hit...don't give me that do goody goody bullsh*t!"

or "Careful with that axe, Jojo..."

What da ya think?

Roger was really thrust into the role of song writer after the first album because he had never really done any [correction, he wrote 1 song on the first album]. I don't think writing lyrics came naturally to him. I think it took a while for Pink Floyd to hit their stride again after Piper. They had to realize that they were a different band and needed to play their own brand of music.

A mashup might work. They both have similar unconventional time signatures like 3/4 (Lucy), 6/8, 12/8, (Shine) at least in the verse. Lucy switches to 4/4 in the chorus. Sounds like a job for Phil Retrospector.
