for you magnolia leaf haters, the leaves can make for great mulch. The trick is to round them up, place them in large trash can filled about one qrt to half way. Get out your weed whacker and run it inside the trash can, mulching the leaves.

OK, that's not gonna happen but I'm hearing that maybe they can work. Aren't they wonderfully fragrant? Know nothing about them so please excuse the ignorance but after hearing about all the falling stuff , I figured between cars wasn't a good place.

Need to do a little homework to see how close to the house and all they can be. Sounds like I can just pine straw over the dropped leaves so sounds like front is best but don't know if this little (40x70) lot can handle 3 of them. Don't they get REAL big? :idontno:

Yes, with much time, they get really big, not just tall, but wide, too. The roots of Magnolias can penetrate into water pipes so you want to avoid planting them near the pipes buried in your yard.

There are trees in Seacrest now?

we have one thanks - we had to buy it when half of this a$$hole's tree fell in our yard during an ice storm and we had to cut our way out the back door. with no offer of help or compensation from them. that's why i throw dog poop in their yard

i'm not sure what kind of tree it is....

Be careful Audie, the dog poo (fertilizer) may be helping the tree. I'll be over with a chain saw. Or we can deliver the poo right to the door instead of the yard. Your neighbor sounds like a real keeper. I don't have a tree, but my neighbor feels so bad about her tree dumping leaves on us we'll find her cutting and bagging our yard several times a season. I'll have my neighbor call yours and give him some pointers.

We would play with these when we were little- stand on a high deck (or climb a tree), and drop the dried out maple seed pods- watch 'em spin down to the ground. Oh good times! When kids were easily amused!

We did that!! I passed it on to my kids too, they loved it. Of course that was before PlayStation 2 abd Xbox.

very true, SJ, plus the roots tend to pop out of the ground around the trunk...not very attractive...putting lots of straw down would help that look...but won't really help with the leaves...they fall...and just never go away..don't discentergrate like most leaves...covering them up with straw would create a massive mound over time

Don't go there :pissed: Sounds like those magnolias need some land to spread out so don't know if they're gonna work in this small space. Have to leave them in for the final drb review but you might wind up getting them after that. Should be a couple of weeks. I could probably put one down at my place in Tampa bay but 3 is too many! Can't believe he put them there. Must have had a sale on them! I don't need my pipes screwed up.
