I think we're about to declare war on Libya

New posts
Its pretty clear that ths has nothing to do with democracy or human rights. Its the combination of oil and being small enough to push around. The People's Republic of China kill/oppress more people in a day that Gaddafi does in a year. When do they get their no-fly zone?

It amazes me that this Administration could totally ignore the local disaster in the Gulf for 57 days and yet can somehow react so vigorously to events within the sovereign borders of another nation so quickly.

We now are engaged...

U.S. military launches missiles against Gadhafi's forces in Libya, defense official says.

This is PROGRESS! Perhaps he just didn't explain it to you clearly enough.

I oppose this action. I think someone else, like the French or Grat Britain should take the lead on this. I feel if we are involved we should only be involved in support.

They already have-

While French jets launched the first attacks on Gadhafi's forces, Americans jets will be part of the enforcement. "When this commences, we'll have American aircraft involved," the official said.
The French Defense Ministry said its attack aircraft being used to take out tanks and artillery have deemed Benghazi and the surrounding area an "exclusion zone."
The French are using surveillance aircraft and two frigates in the operation to protect civilians. The aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle will soon depart Toulon, France.

Again, I say, big business runs the US. The only change was who gets the profits.

I really wish someobdy in Washington would clarify to the people of this country our role in this.

When Obama gets back from playing in Rio, filling out both his men's and women's NCAA brackets, going to fund raisers, and playing golf, maybe he can fill us in if he has decided not to vote "present" this time around.

Sorry, PresBO. Sux to be President sometimes. Now, you have to take a position or look like a rank amateur in world politics.

Edit: Notice that I did not offer up my position. I would just like the man to take a stand one one way or the other and act like a leader.

This will make the Libyans love us more?

From Al Jazera story Airstrikes begin on Libya targets

Libyan state television reported that civilian targets in Tripoli had been bombarded, as well as fuel stores in Misurata. The state news agency reported that there had been "civilian casualties as a result of this aggression".

Assuming that it is true, I can see where this will endear the members of the UN force to the Libyans and enhance its standing throughout the Middle East. (Once its been reported throughout the region the truthfulness of it won't matter much anyway.)

Wouldn't matter if a lifeless patch of desert sand 50 miles from the nearest town got bombed. They are going to say there were civilian casualties. That's their negative PR spin machine at work.

The Pentagon says 112 Tomahawk cruise missiles have been launched from U.S. and British ships in the Mediterranean, hitting more than 20 Libyan targets along the Mediterranean coastline.

Navy Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, director of the Pentagon's Joint Staff, told reporters the Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from one British submarine and a number of American destroyers and subs. He said the success of the mission was not immediately clear, adding that additional attacks would commence later.

the mi complex needs a proper bowel movement. who says we have to have a war every 20 years?" The commencement of the allied military campaign came on the eight-year anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq. On March 19, 2003, President George W. Bush addressed the nation at 10:16 p.m. from the Oval Office, telling Americans that coalition forces "have begun striking selected targets of military importance to undermine Saddam Hussein's ability to wage war."
