I'm NOT impressed!
I told myself (repeatedly) I wasn't going to do this and that I wasn't going to say vulgar displays of wealth and privilege (at taxpayer expense) disgust me but I guess my compassion for those less fortunate got the best of my judgment. So, I'm going to say it...
I'm NOT impressed with 53 Christmas trees or the $128 million dollar price tag (replete with bullet proof glass) to light the National Christmas tree or a 300 pound gingerbread White House and every expensive, ornate, glittery bauble/ornament and gumdrop money can buy.
I'm NOT impressed that cutting funding for "Meals On Wheels" which provides meals to the elderly is being called "one of the most compassionate things we can do" when someone in this country will go hungry, particularly an elderly person or a child!
I'm NOT impressed that there are proposals to cut funding for a program helping low-income families with their heating bills which means that people will not have a safe warm environment in which to celebrate Christmas.
I'm NOT impressed that there are at least 62 programs including cuts to education for our children, health and human services, housing and urban development, transportation, the EPA, immigration and naturalization and VA programs that the current White House wants to end.
I'm NOT impressed when I see people say "Thanks Mr. Trump for bringing 'Merry Christmas' back to the White House" when it NEVER left but has been on a downward spiral since he took office.
Last but not least I'm NOT impressed that people seem to have forgotten what the season is really all about....a child, a savior, born in a manger (the lowliest of circumstances) because there was no room at the Inn and that from his humble beginnings he went on to do powerful things for people, especially the downtrodden and poor. Instead of coming to earth as a pampered, privileged ruler, Jesus was born in meekness and humbleness, as one of us and even he would not condone (accept or allow) not helping those less fortunate.
Remember the Reason for the Season folks and put Christmas in perspective! It's not about vulgar displays of wealth, fancy baubles and gaudiness or how many Christmas trees we have in the White House. It is about caring and sharing and helping those less fortunate than ourselves everyday of the year!
Merry Christmas.
