Interesting Fact regarding NOLA

Today was my day to donate blood again. They now ask an interesting question when qualifying you to donate. If you have been to NOLA in the last 90 days, they will not allow you to donate. Makes me wonder about the toxicity of just visiting New Orleans right now. :idontno:

Interesting. I'll be in NOLA November 1 through 30. Guess they won't be wanting my blood for a while. I've heard stories, but I can only imagine what it will be like to actually be there. The stench in some of the areas must be awful. Supposedly there are certain areas where the trucks are required to go to empty the rotting food from refrigerators prior to disposing them. From what I understand, you can smell it about a mile before you get there.

Love the Avatar...really!

I guess Phillip is tainted..is he safe to have sex with? Oh well, probably a little late for that anyway.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the hurricane, maybe they just know what people do when they go to NO and they want to give them some time to clean out their system.

Been back twice. I'm sure some places stink, but as a whole, the City doesn't. If Navarre flooded, you wouldn't smell it Destin - NO is a big place. The garbage in the Quarter is being picked up on a regular basis and the street sweepers are back. The places most people are familiar with - French Quarter, Garden District and Magazine don't look much different now than before the storm and most businesses in the tourist areas are open including restaurants - had dinner at Muriels on Jackson Square Sunday night, made reservations in advance, full house, same great menu and food and a lot of people glad to back and happy to see each other again.

FYI

Sounds good. I take it your place was fine?

Would you advise people to visit yet?

Is Cafe Du Monde open????

Cafe Du Monde is opening this week - like most places, their biggest challenge is finding people to work. In the Quarter - Muriels, K-Pauls, Peristyle, Bacco, Port of Call, Irene's, most of the bars including Lafittes, grocery stores and galleries and shops are open including about nine hotels.

We were lucky, we got a roof leak, but nothing major. One side of the twin spans is now open to two-way traffic and moved a lot more smoothly than the east bound bottleneck over the bridge in Pensacola. As you drive through New Orleans East toward the Quarter and the CBD, it is incredible to look out and see the stretches abandoned neighborhoods and cars that were flooded - most of which are still parked where the owners left them before the hurricane. But once you get in the Quarter and other areas that didn't flood, everything feels and looks more suprisingly normal with each visit. There's not a lot of wind devistation to be seen, just water lines on buildings and houses. If the grass and shrubs in these areas weren't dead, you wouldn't be able to tell anything was different except for the total lack of people.

Haven't been to the 9th Ward - probably much worse.

Thanks for the update WU. Sounds like NOLA is beginning to breathe a bit!

WaltonUndercurrent, my ex-sister-in-laws family owned the Messina's restaraunts in NO. Do you know if they are still there and opened? It has been years since I have been there, or been touch with her. I just wondered if you knew if they were still there. Thanks in advance!!

I am so glad that you did not sustain much damage to your home. Thank you for the update on NO. It is one of my favorite places!!!!
