Reading with interest and thought I'd offer another perspective. Someone forwarded me a link to the following article:

The article doesn't necessarily echo my own opinions regarding the subject (which I will admit are mixed.) But it was indeed, quite provocative.

P.S. I am feeling very non-confrontational today, so I keeping my thoughts to myself for now. But I definitely agree with the idea that we should all have a margarita (or beer, or wine, etc.) and chill by the pool, or beach, etc.

That article was written by Congressman Tom Tancredo, who has been quite adamant, to say the least, about restricting Colorado's immigrants. So it was rather interesting when he was found to have an illegal immigrant working on the addition to his house! He's really been an embarrassment; one of his worst gaffes was talking about "taking out" Muslim holy sites (specifically, Mecca). There is talk of Tancredo running for President.
As I said before, US citizenship is a privilege and I do not see this in black and white--it is a complicated situation.
In some ways, our country is reliving how things were a hundred years ago.
New technologies, the economic disparity between classes, political corruption,growth growth growth...back then it was "No Dogs and No Irish" and now it is the Mexicans who are derided.
Meanwhile, everyone watches American Idol while World War III brews.

Did y'all know that Latino soldiers were the most highly decorated ethnic group during World War II?

Like I said, just another interesting perspective. Agree that it is a very complicated issue.

And not everyone is watching American Idol while WW3 brews - certainly not me. But I will definitely be watching "House" tonight (the first of a two-parter that finishes tomorrow night!!!!!)
