It is nice work if you can get it

Exactly what cake are they eating? They reduced the payroll from $38.8 to $37.1 million.

"... over the past year, the average salary of a White House employee went down, the total number of White House staffers went down, and the total amount spent on White House salaries went down. Pay increases were given for a variety of reasons, ranging from promotions to additional work responsibilities."

Seems like you should be happy instead of biatching - they are spending less money and have fewer government employees. Isn't that what you keep saying we need to do?

I don't have a problem with the overall reduction, in fact I applaud it. But they could have cut further by limiting raises. Besides, it is a little unseemly to be granting raises to White House employees when the majority of Americans, including most state and local workers, have not received a raise in years. In fact the average WH worker received an 8% raise. How many other Americans received an 8% raise?

If you read the actual article, you will find that 60% of these supposed "raises" came with new job titles and duties. That isn't a raise, it's a promotion with a commensurate salary change.

Fewer employees have more work and responsibility, so in many cases their pay changed to reflect that. The average salary went down $1,000.

This is just nitpicking and distraction. If we could reduce the overall budget by this much each year, our country would be golden.

If you were to substitute the name "Scott" for the name "Obama" would you still think it is nitpicking and distraction? I think not.
