SJ...there is so much bad stuff floating around!!!! half of our family was sick for Christmas...................I hope you feel better soon
Thanks, I never completely got rid of the crap I had for about the last two months, and this feels like the same bug. Arg :bang:. (I will try to stick to the topic) Fortunately, my job as a Realtor allows me to set my own hours, so I don't have to go to the office to work. I can stay home and rest when I get sick. I prefer to stay at home and help prevent the spread of the funk when I can.

I very much enjoy being a Realtor. My days are broken into different tasks, so I never get tired of being routine. One of my favorite tasks is scouting out property. Also, helping buyers find the property that suits them best is very exciting. This career fits my personality and allows me to visit with many people and learn many things. From reading this board, I know many of you must think I talk all of the time, but in real life, I probably listen much more than I talk. I guess this board balances out the other side of my working life.

The bad part of my job is that, working mostly out of my home office, I tend to work at all times of the day. Sometimes separating home life from work life is difficult for me to do. Most of my life, I have been a work-a-holic.

I truly love my job - and a part, I'm sure, is because I work for myself. I sell health insurance for a couple of different companies.

It is rewarding to be able to give someone a policy they can actually afford and even write some people that other companies run from. There is a real need in our area for HI since not too many employers offer coverage.

I meet a lot of really nice people, too!!! AND I get to make calls from my porch on nice, warm days while Bubba takes his "porch nap".

Yes, but what a place to work. Ocean, sand, big sky, smells from the ocean.

And I know how lucky I am - I love driving down 30-A looking at the lakes, driving over the Destin bridge looking out toward Crab Island, the color of the water never ceases to amaze me and the people that live here are just the greatest - I am truly blessed to live here!!!

I make no excuses for others, but maybe they are difficult to work with because they just returned from waiting three hours at the Doctor's office, after making the appointment two weeks prior when they were just beginning to show symptoms of illness. Top that off with they missed a half day's pay from work, and their insurance company's reps are angry too. On top of that they are sick. :puke:I will definitely keep you and Mr Audie in mind the next time I visit the pharm. I am usually very nice to people, but have been known to blow a gasket when the pharmacy misplaces medicine or, even worse, the script.

What do you recommend for my sudden cold?

one of the other pharmacists recommends vitamin c and lots of liquids for a cold - i am a germaphobe and am constantly washing my hands and lysoling everything, so knock on wood i don't get sick very often. haven't had a sick day in almost 5 years.

i think another reason my husband dislikes his job stems from being robbed at gunpoint for oxycontin, which is the drug of choice in these parts. and when my dr. keeps me waiting, i am always on his case about it. my time is just as valuable as his, even tho he makes 4 times what i do ! it cracks me up that people from the emergency room wait up there 5 hours to get a prescription for something that ends up being over the counter, then they complain because they have to wait 5 minutes for us to fill it. oh well, such is life.

Yes, this is exactly the reason I thought I'd enjoy it too. I scout just for fun sometimes. I'd love to be a buyer's agent, that seems like the best role of all. I started the licensing classes last year but got sidelined with a website (for a realtor!) and didn't finish. One of my worries is that there are just so many realtors out there already..might be hard to land a gig here in Atlanta. Much less SoWal. ;-)

Oh and SJ-
Ugh, sorry you're sick again! Here's what i do:
-Get some Zicam to keep it from regenerating
-Take high doses of C (2-5K mg)
-Drink a cup of half hot water, half apple cider vinegar with lemon & ginger slices (and some cayenne if you can handle it). It's actually tasty & will detox you.
-Tonite, it's sippin tequila/bath time! :clap_1:
-Tomorrow, eat some chig'm soup for lunch. It really helps.
Feel better!

Despite what it may seem, I do consider my job a blessing. I came from a department that is losing their jobs in the summer and I am getting married in May, so I need an income. I do want to work, I do want to bring in an income and be "out there" doing something. I just don't feel this is it and I tend to let it interfere with the rest of my life. Being aware of that, I have to make a conscious effort to not let it, even though, at times, I don't succeed. Part of my dilemma lies with the inflexibility of my job. My husband-to-be is a youth pastor and I would really like to be able to be involved with his ministry, but working here will limit my involvement. I need something with a little flexibility.
I work part-time at a church (their publicist, fundraiser, etc.) and I have to say, the youth pastor has to be one of the most challenging jobs in the church!! Rewarding, too, but very challenging. In order for the church to grow ("& spread the word" so to speak) it's up to the youth pastor to keep the youth involved, and therefore, families involved. It's a heavy load and my complete respect goes out to the youth ministries. Hopefully, you can volunteer some of your time with your fiance. Youth ministries usually need all the help they can get, as I'm sure you are already aware of.

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

And if it is too late for you, teach the children well. Give them the chance to be happy by passing on the wisdom to find out what they truly love and are gifted to do. And how to determine who are good people and who aren't. And where is a good place and where a good place is not. And that the perfect situation might not be out there so learn to be happy with what you got. It's not about having what you want, it's about wanting what you have. And if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with. I . . . can't . . . stop . . .

Kurt,

Sounds like you've been listening to your old "Crosby, Stills, and Nash" music.

I love it. "If you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with...love the one your with....do do, do do, do do do do, do do , do do, do do do do.

I've had four careers- Navy, Corporate, Entrepreneurial, and now Not-for-profit Community Development/Lobbying. All interesting and additive in skill sets and experience. One thing all have in common is that to be successful, you must have passion for what you're trying to accomplish, regardless of the particular job. The more passionate you are in your daily activity, the more positive energy you create for yourself and your team, and the more fun it is to be there.

You are so right! I've been involved with youth in one way or another since I was 13 and now, being on the other side of it, there is a lot of work that goes into this job, and a lot of responisbility. I want to be involved as much as I can to support him, but I would like to work in some capacity, too. It's just finding that "right" fit.

Speaking of jobs, I'll be around for a couple more weeks. They have asked me to stay until a big implementation is done. :bang:
