I am a "southerner," but you wont find a "rebel" when I get scratched. AB, chill out. I don't know where you get your perspective of this tragedy, but I encourage you to open your heart and mind, and seek to understand. I know you are inconvenienced by the situation. It sounds like you are equating your situation after Ivan to this situation of the people of NOLA after Katrina. That is not fair. If you were not in NOLA, I don't think you can have a true understanding of what these people are going through, even if your home was destroyed by Ivan.

FYI- they don't play football in the Astrodome. It has not been used for sporting events for several years.

IMHO, State Parks should not be used as a year-round residence, especially for a long number of years. I am surpized that the State actually allows you to do that.

EDIT: Okay, I do hear that they use the parking lot for the football fans' parking for the games. I stand corrected.

If I were being forcibly evicted by da gubmint, I'd be having a bad day too.

He is being evicted from State Property. He has a camper there. It is not a primary residence. People being brought in have no home at all. Also, they have, maybe only temporarily, lost their city, friends, and family. I really don't feel that AB's bad day is on the same scale as the bad days and months, perhaps even years, as the people moving in to the State Parks.

AB, I think many people on this Board respect your opinions. I do. However, I am not going to let that stand in the way of waking you up. Shame on you. I still love you, Brotha, but shame on you.

My grandparents used to have a camper parked on Lake Martin. Those were simple times. I remember having a blast there as a kid. They had no money but they found a way to enjoy themselves in that ugly box by the lake.

On another note, are they building tent cities for any of the stormies fleeing New Orleans? It seems to me that if the gubment bought a large piece of property, they could build a tent city that would house every one of these people. Not to mention, they could have some friggin family privacy.

I just don't understand why they keep cramming people into a building (astro dome) that wasn't designed to handle that many people. With a tent city, they could build septic systems, make the people somewhat comfortable, and they could stay as long as they needed.

And I'm almost certain it would cost a fraction of what it will cost to clean and repair the dome once everyone leaves.

Any thoughts?

"Taking refuge" is correct.

Yes, and a person "taking refuge" might sometimes be called a "refugee". My point is, getting upset about this is taking PC a little too far.

MB, I bet if you go back a year from now, and read your posts about this, you will see what we see when we read them. It looks bad. I am sorry that some of the permanent residents at your park have been moved. They should have been the exception, if they did choose to stay. But you must realize that there is no easy answer here, and no matter what, people are going to be inconvenienced.

The communities in Texas have received - by FAR - the majority of these evacuees. Who do you think is sacrificing to make room for them? Do you even realize what is involved in accepting hundreds of thousands of people (many of whom are welfare recipients) into communities who are already straining under costs of living burdens, unemployment rates, and housing bubbles? Do you hear any Texans complaining? Suck it up man! We must rise to the occasion.

While I am ranting, I will display my irritation with people who leave their campers at the campgrounds year-round as vacation homes. We are big time campers, and there is nothing more irking than having to settle for shabby campsites, because all of the best ones on the water have been taken up by selfish people who aren't ever even there to enjoy them.

I am not upset, just trying to use this mucked up English language correctly when trying to. I often knowingly, and unknowingly, stray.
