Hi everyone. Just thought I'd pop in for an update. I've been gone for a while--no time for forums, busy with a million things, including job hunting, which is a full time job! And man, I tell you, I've been on the front lines. By now just about everyone in town knows my strengths, weaknesses, skills and the year I graduated college.
shock
There were some cool places, and some very, very sullen places. Nothing was really matching up. Bottom line, quiet desperation is still alive and kicking and eating microwave popcorn in cubicles all over Atlanta. I really wanted to avoid that, and find the right thing. I knew it was going to take a while...I entertained myself along the way by giving names to my interviewers.
There was old Baldy McTieStain, and his sidekick Pasty McShirtSleeves at the university. CEO Studly McJawline whose first statement was "You must be a runner, you have a runner's body."
eek: can he say that?!). Then there was my favorite, the power-starved Squeaky McChinless over at a certain global Telecom, who took sadistic glee in asking me a question, but before I finished answering, spins around in his chair, pulls up my band's website and asks "SO.. is that YOU? I always google people. I like to find out what they really are doing." Oh my. Seemed he knew he wasn't going to hire me all along, he just wanted to be able to spina around and do that. Heh. Score one for rock and roll, I truly couldn't imagine working there anyway. I left smiling.
Well, y'all, I can finally say the search is over! I really, truly landed a dream job for me--Web Producer at WSB, radio side. I've loved radio since I was a little kid, under the blanket with an AM radio trying to get Albuquerque to come in at night -- I used to DJ some, this is my kind of job! I'll be working right alongside Clark Howard and Boortz and Walter Reeves and all those great AM guys. FM side too. They have websites for each of their various stations, and I'll be maintaining them. I have just about the nicest boss in the world, too, which may be the best part of all. I start Wednesday. Oh...and on top of all the perks of working in media...I can even wear jeans if I want, it's that casual there. Unbelievable. Game over. I couldn't be more thrilled.
Anyway, sorry this was so long, but it's been, well..so long! I'll try to pop in more often now that I might have some time to do so. I sure have a lot of catching up to do with what Sowal has been up to.
