Keep Walton county Bikers Safe!

[silver_swim]

Please join us for a bike ride on Sunday October 1, 2017 at 4 pm. We will ride from Tom Thumb in Seagrove to the intersection of Hwy 395 and County Hwy 30-A. We are bringing awareness to the safety issues at this intersection and the need for the bike trail to be on the southside of 30-A.

[Jenksy]

Yes! I think we should also create beach accesses and parks and parking on the south side of 30a.

[Bob Wells]

Will you be stopping at the stop sign or riding through it?

[Leader of the Banned]

It's never been clear to me whether stop signs apply to the bike path. If they do, then why are there distinct cyclist stop signs at the 83 intersection? I don't know if there are separate signs at 395.

Hate to be the wet blanket but a deal was struck with the county and homeowner on the south side who also owns the parcel on the nw corner. I believe it was a permanent easement swap on south side for a easement on north side for the turn lane. I don't blame them for wanting the deal because a bike path would take away any bit of yard they have, and parking/turnaround. Yet public safety should be of primary concern. And begs the question - didn't the public already own the rights on the north side? Whatever the case, public safety and access is what eminent domain is for.

Was the nw parcel considered commercial before the swap?

I stopped bringing my road bike to SoWal years ago. Seriously one of the most inhospitable places I've ever cycled.

Not to be an ass, but I have seen many bikers that do not obey the basic rules of the road. Case in point, Wednesday stopped at a cross walk near Seacrest a family of eight was crossing with two carriages and a wagon when a guy on a bike who has to see all of this and wonders why this family is in his way, literally whizzes through the two groups. I about turned around and force fed him his 12 speed. Trust me I also see that drivers are no better, asshats are asshats I suppose.

I think the pedestrians on the bike path are as bad as anyone. Self-absorbed brain dead zombies.

Where were these protesters one or two years ago when all this was being decided in open meetings? It's a bit late now...

They might have been there but it's irrelevant. That is a lame counter. An issue is an issue and timing is always perfect.
