Key Republican Uses the Bible to Calm Fears of Global Warming.

New posts
Yay! We don't have to worry about Global Warming, the new Republican who is now the highest ranking U.S. official in charge of the environment says man has no control over the Earth at all--that God will take care of everything, and it will be just fine.

I, for one, feel so much better now  ...but, (whatever happened to separation of Church and State?)

"The highest-ranking House official in charge of environmental and energy policy may soon be a Republican legislator who denies climate change on the grounds of his belief that nothing bad can come of the Earth unless it is preordained by God."

John Shimkus, GOP Rep. Who Denies Climate Change On Religious Grounds, Could Lead House Environmental Policy

I hope he can walk on water.

He'll be ok, polar bears are good swimmers. In fact, polar bear populations have grown over the last half century thanks to warming arctic temperatures which have produced burgeoning food supplies. In time, you'll be able to buy polar bear steaks at Win Dixie to help control their population growth.

Mmmm, polar bear, thems good eatin'! (They make a pretty good fur coat too.)

America?s climate-deniers mounted an effective disinformation campaign that made ?climate change? a four-letter word in the Republican Party. This undermined efforts to get a clean energy bill ? the sort that might break our addiction to oil and take money away from the people our soldiers are fighting in the Middle East. And all of this happened in 2010, which is on track to be the Earth?s hottest year on record. So here?s the math: 98 climate scientists out of 100 will tell you that man?s continued carbon emissions pose the risk of disruptive climate change this century. Two out of 100 will tell you it doesn?t. And ?conservatives? today tell you to bet on the two. If the climate-deniers are right ? but we combat climate change anyway ? we?ll have slightly higher energy prices but cleaner air, more renewable energy, a stronger dollar, more innovative industries and enemies with less money. If the deniers are wrong and we do nothing, your kids will meet the sudden stop at the end. - Thomas Friedman
.
Even if you don't think climate change deserves our attention, how much does it hurt us to work toward a cleaner environment with less dependence on nonrenewable resources. There isn't much to lose so why not do it anyway. And it will be a safeguard for future generations who are the ones that will suffer from our lack of environmental stewardship.

Finally, there is something deeply wrong about Mitch McConnell, the Senate G.O.P. leader, saying that ?the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.? McConnell explained that that was not because Republicans simply crave power (heaven forbid), but because this is the only way Republicans can achieve their goals of repealing the health care bill, ending bailouts, cutting spending and shrinking government. - Friedman

Manmade climate change is a lie. Show me data that hasn't been manipulated or graphs that aren't based on bogus info. They can't because it doesn't exist.

The declining polar bear population has already been proven to be a lie too. Keep shucking lies at folks to scare them into believing your crap all in the name of new taxes. These people belong in prison.

I MEANT, I hope SHIMKUS can walk on water

This is very troubling to me. It reminds me of a time when my 6 year old niece looked out the window, saw a rainbow and innocently told me "That's God's promise he'll never flood the Earth again." (sweet little thing - she's 33 now!)
(We all know the story: God was unhappy with humanity because they were being jerks, so he decided to flood them out. But God thought Noah was a good guy, so he advised Noah to help humanity and all the creatures of the world survive (excluding unicorns) by building an ark.)

Hopefully, most grow up to learn that those are just stories and not the 'infallible' word of God. But this Shimkus is an elected official on the ENERGY COMMITTEE  and he still believes this story and is making policy based on it. My mind can't wrap around the idea that basically fairy tales are being referred to as 'evidence'.

This guy read biblical passages at an Energy and Commerce hearing about climate change. Please don't let him have the gavel!
It's not that I think one should hide their faith, but just not base their decisions/votes on faith INSTEAD of research, facts, evidence, solid "think tank" information and the like.
CRIKEY!

Let him evangelize outside of his public office.

I would have asked him if he expects his children to keep their rooms clean, since somehow I would expect God would expect the same.

Seeing as snakes are deaf, I think it's more plausible that he would know sign language than be able to speak. I think the talking thing has been disproven.

Here's the deal, if carbon emissions aren't bad for the environment then they shouldn't be bad for you right?

Simple scientific experiment for climate change deniers:

Pull your car into your garage or other enclosed space.
Roll down the windows.
Close the garage door.
Breath deep.
Post your results here.
