CNN has been showing a special 'Killings at the Canal'. I'm sure you can find something about it on the CNN website and I'm sure they'll continue to discuss it on television. They've been showcasing it quite often.
Anyway, I feel horrible for the guys involved in this. From my perspective, basically what happened was we put these guys in a war where when they captured the enemy who fought against them, they turned the enemy in. Once in captivity, a large percentage of the insurgents were released and given money for their 'troubles'. Then, they begin firing bullets or making roadside bombs once again, killing more soldiers.
Our soldiers turn insurgents in only to find themselves fighting the same people over and over. This doesn't sound like 'war' to me. It sounds like something else. Shame on us for putting our friends and neighbors and countrymen and woman in a situation like this.
These guys, apparently took things into their own hands and killed the guys they'd captured. You can understand how one can decide that a soldier in no way should ever even consider doing this. But damn, haven't we let down out soldiers when we continually let the insurgents free to fight them again. I wish the military would just set these guys free. They aren't a threat to us. We did this to them and I for one am ashamed of 'us'. We should demand that they be let free. I know they were judge and executioner, but this is suppose to be a war.
Part of the report said that insurgents have to be released if the bomb making material was found in a different part of the house than the insurgent was found.
We ought to be ashamed that we sit on our beaches and at the same time our military personnel has to live in a situation like this. And these guys are in jail for a long, long time now. It makes me sick.
