sorry jdarg - i despise snakes.... have been terrified of them from a young age. they are disgusting. i am getting the willies just typing about them.

My grandmother was so terrified of snakes that if she heard the word, she would become ill. One time I decided to test that- and she boxed my ears pretty good. I never said "snake" again in her presence.

However, I decided then and there that I wasn't going to be scared of snakes! Seemed like a lot of energy wasted on something you rarely encounter and is much smaller than you.

audie, for those big mo foes, you will need a chainsaw and some big balls. :floor:

If you don't have a snake man in your neighborhood in SoWal, pm me and if I am around, I will help you relocate the critter.
Guess I need a chainsaw.

I don't like them, but I also don't like to kill them. I am the type that will scoop up a spider, ant, wasp, fly...whatever and shoo them out of the house. I fill so guilty killing them. I even say a little prayer for the road kill that I see on the side of the road...I am such a weenie that way!!!! However, I did have "mouse" problem a couple years ago. We tried the catch and release and it didn't work. So my other half decided it was time for the poison...OMG, it was awful. I thought I had a couple. Well, after a few days I started noticing an awful odor in my kitchen, I kid you not, every drawer and cupboard I opened had a deceased mouse or 2 or 3 in it....I had to take everything out of drawers and cabinets and clean like mad. Everytime I saw a dead one I just felt awful. So, never again will I do that. I haven't had another problem with them though.

kdw: I'm the same way. I hate upsetting the "balance of nature", but I dang sure don't wanna run into a copperhead either! As long as I stay out of their way, it's all good....live and let live!!

I remember walking down a trail in the woods in VA a few years back and on one particular day, I stepped/jumped over 11 snakes. I thought they would never stop coming. The trail was on a slight hill and sometimes the snakes would be on the upper side, and scoot between my legs as I came down the path. By the time I stepped over the fourth or fifth one, my heart rate slowed to a normal pace and it became un-eventful.
