Rather than cry crocodile tears about the loss of landmarks and other special places, I'm going to start a thread to identify places and how they might be saved. Furthermore, all the thoughts expressed on this thread will be bundled up into a thoughtful letter to be sent to the County Planning Director and our County Commissioners. Here are my nominees, for starters.
(1) Pt. Washington and Eden State Park: The place where history began for South Walton, thee of the pristine environment and Marjorie Rawlins-esque musings.
(2) Old Washaway House (1890s) at Grayton Beach: Is this house listed as a historic resource? It's the oldest house at Grayton and a real landmark.
(3) Butler's General Store (Red Bar now) as a communiy gathering spot.
(4) D&K Cafe: Across the road from Red Bar and upstairs---best locals spot for a lunch of boiled shrimp, gumbo, or the catch of the day with a cold one! Oh, yeah...key lime pie to die for and a peachy place to plan a party out on the porch or just to watch the sun set.
More? Please?
