Last night I had to call Wildlife Rehabilitation...

Thanks to the post about where to go when you find an injured animal!!! Last night my cat came through the pet door with a baby rabbit in its mouth. You never saw someone one jump up so fast. I grabbed my cat by the back of the neck with one one hand and opened its mouth and removed the baby rabbit who was kicking and jumping. I could see it had a nasty puncture on one side. It was so cute. :( I put it in a box and came immediately to sowal to the thread about wildlife. I then called Lisa at 8:30 and she was so kind to tell me exactly what to do. I've brought many wildlife back to life in my time but never a baby rabbit. It was so comforting to talk with Lisa as we discussed options, which ended with put it in a dark warm place in a box with a soft towel and let it pass on. She knew (I did too) that it would not survive a puncture wound from a cat. So this morning I buried the baby and sat out on the back porch contemplating life and death.

A BIG THANK YOU for that article about Lisa, her words of wisdom last night and for having SOWAL to go to to find what I needed in seconds!!!

Sorry you had to be a part of that. But I have seen more rabbits around here in the past few weeks than I have EVER seen here. Crossing Bay DR.,on 30A, on 98. There used to be little pockets of them here and there but this year they are EVERYWHERE.

Last night I had a dream that the little rabbit lived and I was taking it to a meadow. I leaned over the picket fence and put it on the grass and all of a sudden little rabbits started coming out and up to it doing their little nose thing. I think that meant the baby rabbit is okay.:wub:
