Let's talk grocery shopping

New posts
I really try to go once a week, but I always end up going 2 or 3 times. Grocery shopping is my least favorite thing to do in the whole wide world. That, and planning meals.

How many of you get this?

Son: "Mom, what are you cooking for supper?
Me: "What do you want".
Son: "I don't know, or I don't care"
Me: "Give me a hint"
Son: "I don't know".
Me: "Ask your dad what he wants"
Son: "He said he didn't know"
Me: Frustrated as hell........"Okay, I will think of something"

Get home. With "________" to cook.

Son: "I didn't want __________, again".

Me: "Well, what did you want"
Son: "I don't know".

Me: "Screaming under my breath, S.O.A.B.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bang:

I tell them all the time, they better hope nothing ever happens to me, because they will freaking starve to death!!!!

Replace son with husband and that's what I've got.

:floor:Oh Darlene!! This reminds me of a scene from Two and Half Men.
Something to the effect of:

Charlie to Jake: "What do you want?"
Jake: "Whadoya got?"

I can't YouTube it cause I'm at work, but hilarious.

I guess I'm fortunate that I only have to deal with Mr. DD and he'll pretty much eat anything I cook. For the record, I hate going too though. Even when I plan, I always forget stuff and have to go back and I sure can't send him after something specific like Iceberg lettuce....:floor:He came back with shredded bagged lettuce!

I go to Publix once a week or so (unless I REALLY need something) and the farmer's market once a week. Hit Target once a month.

I usually go once a week to do a big grocery shopping, mostly meat and fish, then stop off occasionally to express line some items. Now that I have more time, I plan meals and try to make different things and enjoy cooking at a slower pace. MANgo has gotten spoiled, of late. I like grocery shopping simply because I enjoy bargain hunting. Last week, I bought london broil for $1.29 a lb, and the week before, these huge, cut by the butcher for me, porter house steaks- cost- $2.99 a lb. I hope I do not get mad cow disease.

I do not enjoy shopping when the stores are crowded or if by chance, you get cart leaners. You know who I am talking about. They use the cart as support, block the lanes, stop to look at EVERYTHING... If a snow storm is expected, people run in and buy out all the eggs, milk and bread like they will never leave the house again. That's when I hate shopping and the cussing begins.

You have to have a degree in chemistry to pick some of the foods anymore. I read a lot of labels, so, I take extra time if I can. No wonder America is sick, look at all that processed stuff. If I can't read or pronounce it, I am starting to leave it on the shelf. But, how can you not spend a ton of money buying as fresh and as clean as possible?:idontno: Yuck. Glad it's done.

I've actually had good luck with Target's Archer Farms product line in that regard- frequently both simple one syllable ingredient lists and reasonable prices.

OMC! This dialog sounds so familiar!:bang:

Another one is:
Me: There's nothing in the fridge, and I don't have time to go to the store and cook. We'll have to do takeout. What do you want?
Family: I dunno. Anything's okay with me.
Me: Mexican?
Daughter: JP and I had that last night in ATL.
Me: Chinese?
Daughter: (makes a face)
Me: Well, somebody decide.
...
Me: Okay, I'll get _____ [and I pick what I want as I walk out the door with my car keys]

As an experiment, we have joined a farmer's co-op for the spring and summer. For 26 weeks, we will pick up whatever fresh produce they are providing that week. I suspect we will be sharing ALOT with friends since a) there are only two of us and b) I am not particularly vegetable oriented and c) I don't cook much- however, DH does. He is the one who really wants to try this so we shall see!

I would love to join a co-op like this. I wish my family still farmed; there is nothing better than fresh veggies year 'round, knowing there's no junk on them.

I picked up some delicious organic navels at Whole Foods last week. Two oranges = 5US!

Is that two oranges for $5.00? Is that what this says?
