This one has been there for several years and is probably about 4-5'. I live close by and it did bite my dog on the head several years ago and approached a boat I was in last year so I am certain it isnt afraid of people. As said before ...be careful there.

Dont worry... there will be a couple more there soon to replace them.

If you are a new resident of Florida I think you probably should have researched exactly where you were relocating to. I hate to tell you but Florida is one of the "wildest" states you could ever move to. The wildlife here is very important to those of us that were attracted to this area for its "wildlife" (and not just the kind you have while partying with friends on the beach). I get really upset when people come to this area and complain or jump on the bandwagon to "kill 'em all" when it comes to snakes, bugs, gators,or sharks, that are just a part of this area. Yes ..we have poisonous snakes, biting bugs, and other LARGE creatures that will make your life miserable unless you respect them and their habitat. I recently created a "Welcome to Florida" brochure that should be given to every person that thinks they are moving "to the beach". You must realize that Florida is so much more than the beach and that you have to take the good with the bad.

I hate to inform you that those gators are being processed for the meat and they probably will end up on that guys grill or in the grease before the end of the day. I have lived right off Bay drive for over 20 years and there has ALWAYS been at least one gator in that canal. Same with the bridge over McQuague (sp?) Bayou on E.PT. Washington RD. But they only came and attempted to trap that 14+ footer AFTER it had eaten 3 pets. But it was only about a week later that another 10' was spotted and after that about an 8' one was found dead with half its head blown off by a gunshot. And I just saw another yesterday under that bridge but cannot tell you the size because it submerged when I stopped on the bridge.

FYI- If the gators do make it to a "farm," it is an alligator farm, where they raise gators to be killed for meat and hides, as opposed to the farms where you pick berries and have cute little goats for milking.

Maybe I need to run my kayak back up McQuage Bayou again. I've never seen them in there, and I know several dogs which swam in there all the time. I use to cringe a bit when they would go in the water, because it seems like a decent place for a small gator to hang out.

Make sure and tell JDarg where a key to your house is in case we need to feed your animals if you don't come back

You don't need no stinking key. Your library card will work just fine.

Sheesh, SJ, you're such an intellectual snob. Now you want us to have library cards?
