Littering laws

Anyone know what the smallest size trash one can throw out of their car and not be ticketed by SW? I'm guessing cigarette butts are not considered Littering ?

And you are guessing wrong. A check with the Sheriff's office found that it would be considered littering if someone was observed throwing a cigarette butt out of a car window. They would be subject to be stopped and issued a ticket for littering.

well I can't believe a cop has never seen a fool thump a butt out the window. How many thousands have I seen go not caught? I really don't think a cop will waste his time with this.

I'm only telling you what I was told by a Sheriff's deputy. Draw, as you have, your own conclusions. One thing more. If I were the deputy, I'd stop them and write the ticket. A trash bag is really easy to carry in a car and the ashtray is also useable. People who throw things out of the windows of cars are gross.

We all know cigarette butts are littering, it is just a matter of enforcement. Kind of like underage drinking. During spring break it is job number one and involves the entire WCSO. As for the rest of the tourist season eh, not so important.

Johnny Law does use the tossing of butts a reason to stop you and see what else you might have going on in your rolling party palace. They had a road block on 98 randomingly pulling over kids. My daughter got pulled over with her friends Tuesday when they were going over to PCB to see some people. Apparently in Gulf Shores the cops are really only ticketing littering and not too worried about 20 year olds with cans of beer...

I always use litter bag in car. It is so easy. When it gets full, I just throw it out the window and get another one.
