I am going to California for my first time in a few weeks. I will not have a lot of free time in LA but will get to spend 4 days in San Diego with lots of time to spare. Our hotel is in La Jolla. Anyone know of anything I shouldn't miss or any places to eat, etc.?

Thanks!

Wow. Thanks Kimmi. I will have to print out your list and take it with me. I know we have to travel on PCH for work and have heard how beautiful it is. I am so excited!

Oh, it really is. I'd heard it too and thought it was probably exaggerrated...! But it was all true; it's such a beautiful drive. If you have the time, drive it from L.A. and go as far north as you can!

I've only been once and we went to an area in San Diego called Old Town. They had shopping and lots of nice restaurants. Good mexican food. We took a trolley tour and it stopped at 8 different places. You could stay as long as you wanted then pick the trolly up when you were ready to go again. I think it stopped every half hour. We went to Coronado island, the pier and somewhere else. We didn't have enough time to see the zoo. It was a lot of fun. It's so pretty there. Have fun!

Yeah you are not missing anything in LA IMO. Maybe Venice Beach but you do need to try and hit all the places that Kimmifunn suggested including the Santa Monica pier park area.

The drive down I-5 to San Diego is awesome. Oceanside is a great town on the ocean and La Jolla is big $$ and beautiful too. If you think sowal is an expensive real estate market just check out the real estate on cable TV or in the newspaper WOW WEE big money with small, outdated, 1000 sq ft houses 2 miles from the coast or further for $2M+.

Go to the Hotel Del Coronado over the bridge from San Diego. It is an old ocean front hotel, where Presidents, foreign dignitaries and movie stars have stayed. I think one or more movies was filmed there. Neat place to visit. Sounds like a great trip. Have fun.

Oh, goodness. You'll love La Jolla. It's so upscale. We liked it so much that we actually considered moving there, and I'm 100% Southerner. I felt as though I were in a higher level of existence there, culturally and intellectually.

I'm having a brain freeze right now. We went to some restaurants whose names escape me right now. If I find my trip diary, I'll get back to you.

Ohhh and if you go as far as the Hotel del Coronado, check out the Crown Room and do try to eat at Peohe's at the Coronado Ferry Landing...wonderful, wonderful food. I believe it was "Some Like it Hot" that was filmed at the Hotel del Coronado...Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. In Los Angeles, we ate lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel outside under the Brazilian Pepper Tree in July of this year. We only saw Arianna Huffington's sister  but were told that Leonardo DiCaprio and Arnold the "Governator" had been in to eat earlier in the week. Oh well... Have fun!
