Maybe a new mattress will help???

New posts
Okay...since y'all have become my consumer reports panel, let's talk mattresses. We need a new one and I have only begun to look. Went to a relax the back type store...he sells only the ones he believes are helpful for aches and pains...like Temperpedic. Since both of us suffer from back issues, I liked the idea of a "specialist" working with us. He will send over mattresses until you find the one that works.

What do you sleep on?

We just bought a Stearns & Foster kg-sz. It's fabulous. Tons of softness. Never again will we buy a "firm" mattress. That just killed my joints in the past. Good luck.

Buying a mattress has to be the hardest thing to do. Lying down on it for 3 minutes just doesn't cut it. We have also been thinking of trying a Tempurpedic. Slept on one in a hotel a couple of times. I like it, I just don't know if I love it. I have friends that own a Tempurpedic and they love it. It is really a different feel from a spring mattress.

:floor: I'm thinking Goldilocks----"this bed is too soft..this bed is too hard...this bed is JUST right!"

FYI- comparing mattresses will be difficult, because Brand X, Model 2, will be a different model at another store. It may be Brand X, Model 4YN at a competitor's store. The idea is along the same lines as bank loans, where competitors offer lower rates with more closing costs or points. It is all done to keep the consumers from making bottom-line, educated choices.

It is my understanding the the Tempur-pedic mattresses are great if you do not sleep on your back. I am told by a friend in the business that they are not made for on-the-back sleepers. I grew up sleeping on one (and I am a back sleeper) and that explains why my back would hurt after sleeping on it.

My advice is to pick a winner. I do like the pillow toppers. ;-)

I am mostly a back sleeper too, but I tend to like a firmer mattress rather than soft. Since you like the pillow top, did the Tempur-pedic feel too firm for you? Did your butt sink into the mattress causing your back to hurt? Just wondering why your back would hurt.

Miss Kitty....my neighbor doc mike just bought the sleep number bed and they are very impressed!!!!! they say its the best nights sleep to be had!!!
of course they didnt let me try it.... :idontno:

I like a firm core mattress, but with the pillow topper. The Tempur-pedic mattress is way to giving, not providing support for my back. When I sleep on it, my butt sinks down, and I feel like I am sitting on a reclined lounge chair, hence the back problems. I hear great feedback from the non-back sleepers who use the Tempur-pedic mattresses.

Soooo true!!! It is hard to compare "apples to apples" when it comes to mattresses. We had this problem when we bought ours several years ago. We want to buy a new one already!!! Ours is too soft and we wake up with back aches all the time. I want to buy the mattress that Westin hotels use. They sell them at Westin store . com.
