Just wanted to give you a heads up. I got a letter in the mail from Mediacom saying Thankyou for being a great customer and offered internet for $9.95 a month and phone for $4.95 a month. It did not say anything about only for new customers of these services so I called wanting my internet for $9.95 like it said and was told that the flyers "accidentally" went out to the wrong customers. I knew there would be a reason I couldn't get the offer but they did give me a free month of internet service for the supposed screw up. So, if you got one of these letters and you already have internet, call and make them give you the free month they are offering for the mess up.

Murray et al,

Here is my Mediacom story. I received my bill yesterday and found a $25.00 charge for a returned check. I called accounting and billing and was informed in highly accented English that my credit union had created the charge and there was nothing Mediacom could do about it. On to my credit union, who upon checking, informed me that the charge was by Mediacom's financial institution for a check I had stopped payment on because it had not been received by Medicom and I wrote another check, informed Mediacom of the check stoppage and sent in the 2nd check. Back to Mediacom accounting and billing. Once again, I was greeted by a man with a heavy accent who identified himself as Joe. I asked Joe where he was located...and surprise!...he stated the Dominican Republic! I asked to speak to someone in the United States and got a very helpful soul in Illinois. After a little checking, the $25.00 charge was removed. My end suggestion was that they move their accounting and billing inquiry department back to the Unites States. I'm sure some Americans could use the jobs.
We need some competition for Mediacom.
And Murray, I received the same letter you did and planned to call and ask for the same treatment. I haven't yet as the incident I just described came up in the meantime. I'll close by saying Mediacom leaves a lot to be desired in their supply of service.

I had a similar experience once with Sprint and my bank. Each blamed an erroneous charge on the other. I got them both on the phone together with me (three-way conference call) and wouldn't let either one of them hang up until they'd resolved it. Took over an hour.

I think their internet is down in my area today. I just don't feel like spending the three hours on the phone to find out one way or the other. I have dsl backup!

the first poster. he's right but i think its for new service.i have cable with them

i have cable and was about to leave and get dish and got an awesome offer.i used to get $9.95 a month for each service offer and locked for a yr.i got offered $4.95 a month offer for each internet and phone. thats $10 month for both and in the second yr. it will go up $20 a month for both. so in yr 2 it costs $30 a month for both. have to jump on that

Here's the latest Mediacom gaffe. Channel 13, ABC, says they are not negotiating with them in good faith and will delete Channel 13 from their offerings on Dec. 31st. Call Mediacom and complain vocifously about this issue. As of now, we need another alternative to Mediacom. Who determines who can provide cable service in this county?

The BCC used to grant the cable franchise, but now it is the State:

By state statute ( Chapter 610 section 108 ), as of July 1, 2009, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has the sole authority to respond to all cable or video service customer complaints. Cable franchises are now issued by the Florida Department of State, effectively eliminating local franchise authorities.
