Memphis murders

Be glad you guys live in paradise. 87 murders here year to date. Total last year 153. More than half of that already and it only the end of June. Five year old girl shot in the thigh Monday evening outside her grandmother's home. Says she didn't even know she had been shot, she was in shock! A 13 year old girl shot to death by a 19 year old girl. A supposed turf war. Shocker to this story, her mother provided the gun and went with her. Now both are in jail charged with her death. Not sure about first degree murder charges though. But I think it is! Two others 16 and 17 taken in custody also. Also charged Monday, an 18 year old male charged with shooting to death a 11 year old boy who also shot a 4 year old boy at the same time in Frayser. Another male, 17, charged with shooting a 18 year girl in a McDonald's parking lot on Hacks Cross Rd. And why does this all happen, because these parents do not care where their kids are or what they are doing! Everyone of these shootings was not racially motivated, they were blacks shooting blacks. And to think alot of people like us are stuck here. Cannot afford to move! This sucks! Memphis could still be a good city if they would just hang half of this trash!

How sad. I love Memphis (yummy ribs and Beale Street is a blast!). It's a short hop from St. Louis (we have our share of bad stuff here too by the way) and we often just hop in the car and drive down for a fun weekend. It's so sad that some people have just a disrespect of human life. It's especially heartbreaking when the victim is an innocent child.

We're leaving for Cancun tomorrow; I've never been there before and have been so excited until I read a report yesterday about the increase in crime there. Several policemen were randomly shot and killed in the downtown area recently and the article mentioned beheadings of law enforcement officials in another area - I couldn't bear to finish reading the article. Of course, that's Mexico where drugs are a major problem.

I hear Cancun is beautiful, but I bet it doesn't come close to SoWal beaches! You're right - it IS paradise, and I always feel so safe there!

Sorry to vent, but it is so frustrating that you cannot go anywhere without wondering if a bullet is going to come flying through your windshield. That five year old girl that was shot in the thigh, was leaving her grandmother's house and was in the van with her father and the other children. Some kook came up yelling at her father and started shooting. Went up to the van window and starting firing bullets into the van hitting the little girl. And the mother that gave the gun to her 19 year old daughter to shoot that 13 year old girl, she actually was charged with some kind of assault charge instead of first degree murder herself, the charge of first degree murder is still holding against her daughter. This city has gone to pot!

Being Miss opinionated as I am, I must add mine. I've often said, "it generally comes from PISS POOR UPBRINGING"! PS, this is not my typical grammar/language, but necessary sometimes! Is it me, or does the world seem to be crazier and more dangerous, these days?

it is crazier nowadays. one of my newest fears i have acquired is of being carjacked in the convertible. that's a lot of the reason why i don't drive it more. i am so pathetic ! it is also pathetic people have to be kept prisoner in their own home for safety reasons.

around here they like to steal wicker furniture. i just bought 2 new wicker rockers to put on our front porch and we chained them to the porch pole. how ridiculous is that ? and we live in a decent area.
