Mermaid, Don't Hate Me... but I pickup up another hitch-hiker yesterday. You will be glad to know that I survived another one. This one was a nicely dressed lady, from Memphis, TN who was walking away from her Lexus SUV, which ran out of gas. You just never know. ;-)

I'd have left her on the roadside. What a dumb broad! I bet a Lexus warns you five million times that you're running low on gas. :funn: Seriously though, that was very kind of you to rescue a damsel in distress.

However, young man, you're going to get another mom-ism from me:

"It only takes one time...." (and don't tell me you couldn't get exactly what followed that "one time." )

Mermaid, wherefore art thou? We missed you last week. How are the rentals going on your condo? When are you coming back to SoWal? How is Merman?

Hi Donna! I've had to drastically reduce my posting because it's spring at long last and that means yard work and in our neighborhood, Home Tour Weekend. It's coming up soon and the husband and I are chairing it once again. Endless meetings and phone calls to pull off a kick-off twilight party and the daytime tours. Here's what we have on tour this year: www.mkna.org, click on home tour. This is our one big community civic-minded thing we get involved in and it's happening now!! I've been meaning to write to you about your book idea and promise I will do so soon! I think it's a really neat idea with great potential.

Oh, with condo rentals: this is odd, or maybe you veterans will say it isn't. We were booked very well in April, and every week in May has someone in our place. And that's it. Zero zip nada for June and the rest of the summer! The great hopes I had of rental money nearly covering mortgage payments have been tempered to hopes that it will cover HOA fees, electric, and phone. Live and learn! (But we still love our little place.)

I bet the car calls you on the cell phone and tells you to fill 'er up.

Maybe she couldn't afford gas??

Maybe she heard SJ was a looker and knew he picked up hitchhikers, so thought it would be a great way to meet him?:idontno:

I'm going with Mermaid- bet she's just a dum broad.

People on vacation often leave their thinking caps at home. She was a bit chatty -- maybe she is a SoWaller. :floor:

Nope. Definitely NOT a SoWaller. You didn't describe her as someone who could faint like a goat. ;-) (and yak yak yak at the same time!)

Forget SJ picking up this female "hitchhiker" ..... Why was she hitching? Why wasn't she calling for someone to come help? Why wasn't she concerned about hopping in SJ's car or on his motorcycle, or did you have your happy bike that said "I'm a nice friendly guy"?

The way I see it is, you must really be good looking, why else would she have gotten in the car with you, gas or no gas. I bet she had OnStar.;-)

Well, she was just walking, but I could tell she needed some help. She was far from bashful. She even left her friend in the car, which she did not tell me until we got back on the road. Out of courtesy to her friend and general safety percautions, before we got going, she should have asked me to go back and let her friend know what was up. The driver had a cell phone, but no phone book (I always carry phone books), her friend had no cell phone. I was wearing my name tag and had some For Sale signs in the car, so that probably put her a little more at ease.

When we got back to her car with a small can of gas, not 5 minutes after she ran out of gas, her friend relaxed a bit more. She was getting nervous and couldn't get my license plate (I was only 100 meters in front of their car when I picked up the girl.), so she started to track the time, blah, blah, blah. Even if I had not stopped, she would have been fine because she was only one mile from the Tom Thumb.
