Hello hello! We just got back from a week at the beach...rolled into Indianapolis at 1 am. Can you tell we were reluctant to leave???
You know, my first post on this board was to tell everyone that we bought a condo at Hidden Beach Villas and that we were going to fix it up. Ha! I thought new flooring and a coat of paint would work. Nah, that would be too easy. We're gutting the place. All those years of watching HGTV have finally paid off! We're Renovating Madmen.
Don't believe me? One week at the beach--a mere 150 yards from gorgeous water and beautiful skies--and we only swam 3 times. And that fantastic party at Bud and Alley's? We saw the posters for it, sighed, and grabbed the paintbrushes again for our own personal midnight painting party. Sigh, sigh.
All my worries about the sofa with teal and pink came to nothing in the face of Katrina. We met a wonderful older couple who do the in-house rentals at HBV. Don and Joanne are very charitable and they told us about a huge truck on its way to NO with donations of all kinds. It didn't take us but five minutes to decide to donate the entire contents of our condo. True, the stuff was dated but on closer inspection it turned out to be very good quality and in great shape. We knew people who lost everything (my extended family in NO included) wouldn't care that teal was last decade's color. It was our own small gesture to help.
We worked our tails off! Once we catch up on some sleep I will post some gruesome photos of a Work In Progress. What a mess renovation makes. And here's me thinking that our place is only 500 square feet--a tropical postage stamp in my mind--when you start washing, sanding, painting and otherwise torturing a small place, it GROWS! I got one coat of paint up and it nearly wore my arm out. The walls kept on getting longer and longer...
But we're having fun. There's nothing like a clean slate to work with. We chose wild wall colors for a real beachy theme. And the beauty of it all is that the condo is such a wreck (self-induced to be sure) that we have to go back at the end of the month and carry on working! Maybe this time I'll get to swim 4 times??
