Morning After Pill for US Troops

Thanks, 30AS. Yes, I agree that there are appropriate interventions by gov't when individuals or groups harm others. I just don't see this is belonging in that category. I recognize that definitions of when life begins and so on are critical to determining where the line is when it does become appropriate for gov't to step in.

Still, all these decisions are still made by men, by and large, and that is inappropriate and wrong for all kinds of reasons. Ha ha, I have a vision of the male politicians getting together and thinking they're throwing women a bone (pun intended) by appointing a committee of women to sort it all out.

Agreed. In time I'd hope things even out. Things certainly have in the american workforce, the number of women recently surpassed the number of men for the first time in our history. Times they are a changin'. :D

Is that because businesses only have to pay them $.75 on the dollar vs. men?

You can discuss abortion all you want - but it does not change the fact that the "Plan B" Geo started the thread about is NOT an abortaficient!

It will not end a pregnancy or harm a fetus - it just prevents pregnancy from starting (hence the short time frame).

And if it isn't YOUR uterus, I think it is none of your business. You get to control your sperm and your body - beyond that you need to sit down, shut up, and quit legislating other people's major life choices!

Frankly I can think of much worse things than someone on deployment or in a war zone having access to additional contraception.

Scooterbug, I agree.

I had grown weary of keeping my mouth shut, publicly at least, about the whole issue of reproductive rights and my sense that no man has any right limiting or interfering with any woman's reproductive health decisions. To do so is just as invasive as rape, IMHO, and I think the lack of easily available, inexpensive, truly effective contraception methods is, ..... well, at the moment I just can't even think of a word for how awful and ridiculous it is. I am not often at a loss for words.

If I think of the right word or phrase, I'll be back to post it.

I know - one of the things that pisses me off about this (we all know it's a long list) is that one of the uses for Plan B is to help rape victims have one less potential long term issue.

I cannot imagine, anyone in good conscience, being against the morning after pill. I do not see it as anything remotely related to abortion. Here is another thought that you might consider.
It is a war zone and your only military intelligence analyst and expert is a woman. Suddenly she turns up pregnant and must be sent back to the states. All at once your whole mission and its very much needed effort is compromised until a new replacement can be sent and trained. It is not as far fetched as it may seem. Women perform many necessary functions in the military and in many cases are vital to a unit's function and success.

This is an interesting but disturbing take by some extremists who are against even ordinary birth control pills. The premise is that sometimes birth control pills prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in a woman's uterus. In the eyes of some, that's abortion and that's murder. I guess some people truly believe that as soon as that squiggly tadpole thingy gets to the yolk, a ghost swoops down from the heavens and takes possession.

Would proposed amendment make birth control illegal in Florida? ? Big Bear Observation Post

Jesus H!

Will someone tell these pucking morons that the "birth control pill" has MANY valid medical uses that do not in any way involve terminating pregnancy!

I know many women who are infertile, whose partners have been snipped, who are celibate, who use other forms of birth control etc. who take the pill - because their #1 reason for taking it is not pregnancy prevention.
