Tootsie: If others are invited to your wonderful Festival di Pantalones Bianca in the fall, I'd love to come (I started the mutande of Barga thread -- Barga is my family's hometown in the old country). I really think Barga and SoWal are sister cities with some like minded people--SoWal has the lovely ocean/Barga has the lovely Alpinini mountains.

Paula: this is a great thread and when I first saw it I couldn't believe the Underwear theme as it relates to our own experience in Italy and sowal. we haven't set a date for the local festival but will certainly let you know! Next time I go to Italy, I will try to visit Barga. There are so many incredible towns throughout the country with so much history and great food and wonderful traditions. I just wanna keep going back...

Tootsie:

Where in Italy have you gone? Barga is near Pisa, Florence, Lucca, and not too far from Siena, Viareggio (beach), San Gimignano, and the Garfagnana which is known for it's beautiful nature. I haven't been to Italy for 6 years and am so looking forward to our trip this year. We'll see family (and some friends I made over the years) for a reunion. We really want our children to know their Italian roots and to stay connected.

I usually come to SoWal the first weekend in Nov. in the fall, but would consider coming sooner for the pantalone festival.

Pantalones Bianca 2005 Invitation:

This is truly amazing, twt512! Who would have guessed these towns are twins separated at birth? I can make very good Italian appetizers... So, we'll see what happens this year for the festival. Would love to attend.

How can I enlarge that invite...it looks hysterical!

we've been a few times - once we traveled the entire country hitting the highspots as well as many unknown wonderful places. the last trip was to Cinque Terra with trips into Lucca, Sienna and Milan. I just can't even begin to say which place we liked best, or even which region. We really enjoyed Positano! And I can't even remember the name of the other small coastal village that was one of our favorite, relatively unknown place. Florence was great - but touristy - which we enjoy but tend to move on to some other more remote places for a taste of real life in Italia. Love Tuscany and would like to spend more time there... but also want to explore Sicilia and more Northern Italia. Before we would hop a train and visit cities along the way and when we hit one that was fabulous, we would just unpack the ole backpacks and stay a while. eat, drink, sleep (naptime required!), drink, eat, eat, eat, hike & get a capuccino and a gelato, and start over again. pasta! pasta! pizza! pizza! vino vino vino!!! :D

wish we were going soon!!!

Hope you can see this better....

I think this needs to be a nationwide event. Everyone can have their party on the same weekend..oh the possibilities!
