My Parents Are Acting Like Children!

Okay here's the latest. My parents are still in Naples and they have no plans to go elsewhere. My mother called less than an hour ago but we were watching the movie Erin Brockovich. It was just getting to the good part so I didn't stay on the phone. I mean, it's not like I don't know where they are. :bang: Plus I am so hopping mad at the two of them that the movie was a good excuse not to say anything. I have the distinct feeling that my mother thinks this is a big adventure and it just disgusts me because that's not the way I feel at all. I think they're being irresponsible and selfish to willfully put themselves in the possible pathway of harm.

Sorry for the rant but I never expected to be the daughter of two 73 year old thrill-seekers. Like I don't have enough on my hands being the mother of teenagers. :idontno:

I hear you. At least you can take the car keys and restrict the teenagers!!! It's not like you can :whack: your parents. :idontno:

Hopefully, they'll be fine and figure out this is not an adventure and evacuate in the future.

Oh, I know it's not supposed to be funny, but that is funny, Mermaid.
Sorry.

Mermaid....what is the latest on your rebel parents? I forgot to mention earlier that one of the most important reasons PawPaw evacuated was because of the fallout AFTER the storm hits. No electricity for extended periods of time is truly NO FUN!
I was wondering the same thing--I have a friend in Naples who left today, and I overheard someone in church talking about her father in Naples leaving also. Made me think of the Merparents. Hope they're safe.

Sorry about this, Mermaid. I have done my share of thrill seeking but hurricanes don't seem like something to mess with. I hope your folks decide to play it safe and see the hurricane less up close and personal.

We have friends near Punta Gorda who are staying. They don't seem concerned really. I think they just got tired of evacuating so much last year. I'm praying for the safety of all.

A CNN reporter was interviewing someone who had decided not to evacuate. She didn't want to leave her properties. He asked her if she was prepared with a gun to defend herself against looters. She said, "Oh, we won't have looters here."

The older they get, the more childish they get, if your parents are anything like my Mom. She's a lot harder to manage than a two-year-old.

We'll pray for your parents' safety, Mermaid.

Mermaid good luck with your parents. I hope they have decided to leave or they have supplies etc if they did not.

The latest is the following report on the web:

WILMA IS A CATEGORY TWO
HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. SOME STRENGTHENING IS
POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND EARLY MONDAY...AND WILMA COULD BE NEAR
CATEGORY THREE STRENGTH AS IT NEARS THE SOUTHWESTERN FLORIDA COAST.

Let us know how they fair.

Thanks everyone for your concern. My siblings and I have been on the phone all day begging, pleading, and cajoling, all to no avail. They simply don't get it! It infuriates me that they have several places that they could have evacuated to, but chose not to. Idiot parents! Worse than children!

This is what my mother had the nerve to say when I phoned her late this afternoon to remind her that the key to our condo was waiting for them if they should change their minds: "Oh, the media is down here in Naples terrorizing everyone about this hurricane and nothing is happening."

I give up.

I'm having a good strong drink tonight so I can sleep and then I'm making an extra strong coffee in the morning before I turn on the weather channel. :bang: Idiot parents! Worse than children!

Hey- I heard Gov. Jeb tonight saying that plenty of gasoline was being shipped in, so there would not be a gas shortage. At least maybe your parents can drive up to your place after they get tired of the power being out!

Your attitude sounds pretty good- considering. Hope everything goes OK- will keep my fingers crossed.

It is now a cat. 3.
Mermaid, do your parents live in a condo, hopefully? And what floor? And, if they happen to live on the 1st or 2nd floor, tell them to make arrangements to join some of their neighbors to stick it out together. Also, how far away are they from the water or a canal? Depending on their location, they might not actually be in that much danger. I'm not trying to worry you any more than you already are, but since they are being stubborn (& a smidge careless) at least have them hook-up with their neighbors.
(Did you try screaming and crying??!!)
