Near shore oil drilling Bill introduced into Florida House
April 15, 2010
The new House Oil and Gas Drilling Bill has been filed. The Bill will forever change our near shore waters in the State of Florida and threatens our economy, military and environment.
The important points of this bill are:
1. Allows drilling operations from the wet sand to three mile mark once approved by local governments (i.e., county commissioners).
2. Allows drilling operations from three mile mark to ten mile mark from shore.
3. Above ground platforms allowed from six months to a year from three mile mark to six mile mark from shore.
4. Allows easements to shore for pipelines and oil and gas transportation from the offshore rigs.
5. Allows drilling within three miles from platforms three miles or more from shore.
6. Takes away local military officials influence on drilling impacts on military missions and places the decision making with the Department of Defense.
7. Establishes Board that will have great discretion and influence over leases.
8. Allows above ground platforms in State waters.
?I remain firmly opposed to this new Bill allowing Texas Oil to bring its gas and oil production industry to our beaches and near shore. If this Bill passes it will forever change our State, threaten our coastal economy, military missions and damage our beautiful environment that provides perpetual revenue for our State.?
