I am attending a covered dish tomorrow and need a few ideas of food to prepare. (I understand that the food should be edible. ;-)) I won't have much time to prepare it, so if your idea is not simple, hold it for later. I don't need specific directions or cooking instructions, just some ideas. I can wing it from there. Thanks!!!

I made a curried chicken dish yesterday for dinner. It took 1/2 hr...most of that time was simmering. Good just on a plate by itself (I served it over rice). You can use either coconut milk or yoghurt. It was gooooood!

can't go wrong with a pasta salad with fresh summer ingredients:

bow tie pasta with cherry or grape tomatoes (halved), strips of basil, olive oil, toasted pine nuts, fresh mozerlla balls (halved), and a sprinkle of parmesan. serve room temp, or even cold... don't mix til pasta is cooled.

or I have another more "elegant" pasta salad (a family fave).

or a fresh pasta salad with pesto, green beans, red potatoes (quartered). lovely.

pasta must be cooked "al dente", or firm (though cooked) - or it's just "rurnt". also, you may rinse pasta to cool ONLY if it is being used as a pasta salad. take my word - I invented pasta.

The broccoli salad I made for the 4th was yummy. It's best to make it the night before or at least a few hours before.

Broccoli Cauliflower Salad
1 head cauliflower separated into small flowerets
1 bunch broccoli separated into flowerets
1/2 cup chopped red onion
1 cup raisins
1/2 to 1 cup sunflower seeds or chopped pecans
bacon cooked crisp then crumbled

Dressing
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup vinegar
1/2 cup sugar

Go with Tootsie's pasta idea but use shell shaped pasta. Then go buy a cute sand bucket with shovel and put the pasta salad in it for serving and the shovel is used as the serving spoon. This fabulous idea is out of Coastal Living.

I love the beach bucket and scoop idea!!! If Walmart was anywhere close, I would have to get a big Tonka dumptruck to serve it in. (the party is a baby shower (boy)) Now where can I find a bucket and shovel....Just kidding. Relax. I would not use one I find on the beach, and I will wash whatever I use before filling it with edible yummies.

The dumptruck idea for the boy babyshower is cute. Maybe you could get something at 4kids, Gigi's, or Movies by the Sea.
