Need Someone Computer Savvy!

If you have the original windows cd, you can do a fresh install - format the disk from the installer to blow everything and anything away. You can download office 2007 basic off the web and run it for up to 3 months free. If you format, grab anything you want to keep first!

If you have a restore disk, that often comes with Dells, that would put everything back to the factory settings, except additional software, like office.

Thanks everyone! I don't have any of the original software that came with it.. I got it for graduation and keeping everything was the last thing on my mind! :) Guess I should have been a little more responsible...

I have a Dell laptop that I got in 2006 and I haven't used it since 2007. I was trying to use it last night, and there was nothing. It is super slow and I can't get anything accomplished. There's nothing on it that I need, so I was thinking of completely wiping everything on it out. Is this do-able? and if so, how? All that I really need to keep is Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office. Can anyone help? Thanks!

If you can get a hold of a Windows XP operating system, one of the options when installing it is to reformat (wipe out) the hard drive, so you shouldn't pay anybody to do that. All operating system installs give you that option. You should find a way to grab any important files like photos, .mp3s first. The OS comes with some version of Internet explorer, and you can always download Firefox. I would worry about the Office software next. The biggest issue with installing the operating system is online verification with Microsoft. They can tell if it's already been installed on another computer and that will block the install.

Luckily Microsoft is lazy. After 30-90 days you can reinstall it. This allows for crashes. Of course the fact that Microsoft plans for their software to suffer an unrecoverable event on a regular basis speaks volumes about them.

?qu?? ?como?

No upgrades ever, it's black out friendly, and storage expansion is incredibly cheap:
