Need to find a pool...

...and maybe a new martial arts class.

I need to find a heated and/or indoor pool because I am applying for a job that has a timed swim requirement and I need to practice. Where is the closest public pool that fits this description and/or a pool at a private fitness facility that doesn't charge exorbitant prices?

I would prefer a pool that has a scheduled "adult swim" time because I don't like kids. I am leaning away from the Y in Destin because of the kids and their prices seem rather steep to me.

As for martial arts classes I am picky. I figure if I am paying to learn then I shouldn't have to be annoyed by outside factors. I was taking judo but my instructor moved to a different area. I do NOT want to take a class that includes:

kids, excluding older teens in some cases

other females with a "tee hee" mentality

other females that are there to get a date, not learn about self defense

other females that are there because of their significant other

other females that have something to prove to males

any other females that have any personality characteristics that reflect negatively on the female gender

macho males who have something to prove

males looking for a date

anybody who could be described as "hardcore" anything

a sport or competition preparation element, I am only interested in fitness and self defense

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wish there was a local public pool...

As for your martial arts class, it looks like you will need to take private lessons if you wish your criteria met.

For eastern SoWal, Frank Brown park is very nice, and really is pretty reasonable if you go the master swim practice route ($35/month) once you pay start-up fees. And training long course outdoors utterly rocks, even with navigation issues on backstroke and any discomfort involving butterfly+sunburn.

PCB Aquatics Center

The Panama city Beach Masters (PCBM) swim team is a United States Masters Swimming (USMS) registered team designed to create a fun, relaxed and enjoyable swimming program for swimmers of all abilities.

All swimmers age 18 and older who want to work on overall fitness, better swimming technique, Triathlon training, or competition at the local or national level are invited to join.

If those practice times don't work for you, call them up and see if they still offer a day use discount for people with Florida Driver's licenses.
