New Year's Eve Dining Packages

Beach Runner

beats on hood
We have tried so many New Year's Eve dining packages. In every case we have concluded that the fixed menu was not up-to-par with any of the restaurants' typical quality. Last NYE was a total disaster. We were at a restaurant in SoWal that we really like. We had reservations. We chose beef tenderloin. They ran out of beef tenderloin. The service was horrible and incredibly slow. They ran out of the desserts on the fixed menu. It was an excruciatingly painful evening, yet very expensive. No apologies either. And the staff knows us. :idontno:

This is not a SoWal problem. This has happened to us in Atlanta many times.

We have decided that we will cook at home at the beach on NYE unless someone convinces us otherwise.

Please share your NYE dinner experiences, preferably the better ones.

we had a lovely dinner on NYE last year at the beach -just ourselves good food and wine. yes-we stayed in. we've had similar dissapointing experiences. i'm hoping this year some more friends show and we can have a good experience (again at home) maybe have the kids at the abracadabra at Alys so they can have their "party".

I stopped going out to eat on New Year's too - overpriced food and truly horrible service seemed to be the norm. Not sure why as they have set menus and reservations well in advance so planning shouldn't be an issue.

My best Sowal New year's we did a beach bonfire and dropped in a Xmas tree at midnight. Lit up the beach and made a very cool noise!

We had lunch at Stinky's (great oysters). I prepared my prize-winning barbecued shrimp recipe. It was a hit, and so easy. (Note to self: arrive at Goatfeathers at 10 AM. By 10:30 AM the line was WAY out the door and I was scared that they might run out of shrimp.) Then we watched football and played Spite and Malice. At midnight EST we did fireworks on the beach with family and friends. Then went inside for champagne at midnight CST. Great, relaxing evening!
