Lots of luck--there should be teaching assistantships or research assistantships to help pay for this. And Austin is a terrific place to live (a whole lot warmer than Madison, where I went to grad school!!

In the fall, our son will be doing this grad school program--in Madison.
Professional French Masters
Coming from Colorado, he loves snowboarding etc, but has never been through a Wisconsin snow season. I think it might be a bit different from Denver's open winters.
He is hoping, once he finishes, for a job in a bit warmer location. ;-)

Cil:
I sent you a PM re Madison--congrats to him--its a very competitive graduate school in a beautiful, albeit really cold, location.

For undergrads, yes....for grad students--its nose to the grindstone (and lots of warm long underwear).
Actually, its a very community-oriented place with lots of very smart people. But my loving husband, born and brought up in Boston, found it a bit much. Nonetheless, we spent 10 years there , and both our kids were born there (before we moved to Birmingham, which we still miss badly).

Oh I'm sure it's nose to the grindstone. But I've always heard from everybody here in the Chicago area what a HUGE party town Madison is! The 2 just always seem to go together.

Newyorker, thanks for the PM.
Yes, we've heard about what a party town Madison is, but after four years of undergrad partying in Ft Collins and Boulder, and further opportunities in France, I think the kid is over the worst of that kind of stuff.
His program is very intensive and he wants/needs to do well.
I am going to order some thermals for him! ;-)
