if we had mandatory service, we would not engage in oil wars. we are now content to "send in the irish, use them up 1st".

I have to disagree, Glenda. IMHO, it more about McCollum pandering to Tea party members and her constituency. 7 million is a drop in the bucket when you're curbing expenses in a multi- billion dollar deficit. Probably half of that alone went to some CEO of a Bank who was the benefactor of Tarp funds.

I was talking about the money going to the NASCAR people...not the Congresswoman. Just another version of a cronyism in "military contracts..."

Isn't mandatory service against the idea of a free country?
america is free for those that have. they don't have to serve anyone, even themselves. put the senator's son in harms way for a change.

tell me about the funding level for military pensions again please. best in the world, make it up as you go along. make up the paranoid object to be public service unions, put the military on a pedestal, beholden to no one. fill the ranks with the poor, fight for oil, repeat.

Many politicians are veterans and/or have family members who serve.

20% of the 535 members of the new Congress have served in the military, 25 from the Senate and 90 from the House of Representatives. And that is a decrease - back in 1975 more than 70% were veterans.

Both our current Governor and Lieutenant Governor are veterans.

We don't go to war because the military is not well enough represented in our government.

Fun Fact: Of all the 20th Century Presidents, only Ike had more time in uniform than Carter (he tops the list with 7 years in the Navy).
