"... it’s an exaggeration to state that Obama has tried to shut down the entire ocean -- or even to suggest that he has shuttered the Atlantic Ocean or all of the waters in the Keys. Tourists and locals can continue to fish, swim and play in the ocean, even in the Keys. We throw a big ol’ bucket of ocean water from the Keys on this claim and rate this claim - FALSE"

They linked many of the ocean shutdown tweets back to an article on the conservative website Breitbart - he's the one that is infamous for editing video clips together to suit his partisan agenda of the day. Our country really has to get beyond his kind of inflammatory hack jobs or we'll never get leaders who will compromise.

PolitiFact Florida | Did Obama shut down the ocean as part of the shutdown?

Otto knows he's full of it. Who is asking for the government to be open and who is keeping it closed? The party of personal responsibility isn't demonstrating any. The party that hates government enough to shut it down is quickly finding that same government provides important services taxpayers want and need. It's sadly comical that Boehner is claiming were he to lead the House to vote and open the government Obama would be getting everything he is asking for. All he is asking for is the government to be open and congress to pay the bills for the money they authorized and spent. He isn't attaching any other demands to this request.

Like they said on the daily show, you can't fart and blame it on the dog. Otto may be full of it, but his position has become a cause of sorts that has solidified some members of the GOP.

Poppy: I agree with everything in your post. Except the part I am full of it.
The title of thread has done exactly what I expected it to do.

I said you were full of it because The President didn't close anything, it was the House led by Boehner. There is a protocol departments go through when there is a shutdown and all the screaming on Fox News doesn't change that fact. If Conservative media thinks the President has time to sit down and line item closings they are more delusional than the Teaparty.

Now for your links, I'm not clear what your point is unless now you realize that the reckless actions taken by House Republicans is having worldwide consequences. One of your links talks about not paying Congress, I disagree, the American people elected them. They are what we ask for so pay them. It may lead voters to think a little harder next time they are standing at the ballot box.

Obama could have issued an Executive Directive ordering the Park Service to "Stand Down" He has that power.

Presidential Directives and Memorandums Same as Executive Orders

Occasionally, presidents issue orders to executive branch agencies through "presidential directives" or "presidential memorandums," instead of executive orders. In January 2009, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a statement declaring presidential directives (memorandums) to have exactly the same effect as executive orders.

"A presidential directive has the same substantive legal effect as an executive order. It is the substance of the presidential action that is determinative, not the form of the document conveying that action," wrote acting U.S. Assistant Attorney General Randolph D. Moss. "Both an executive order and a presidential directive remain effective upon a change in administration, unless otherwise specified in the document, and both continue to be effective until subsequent presidential action is taken."

:lolabove: Yes that's the answer, every time an unpopular consequence of the Republicans making arises the President needs to issue a directive. Wait, you're serious aren't you?:whack:
