oil on beach

We were walking from Seagrove to Seaside yesterday on the beach and there was a large section of fresh oil washing up on the beach. We stepped in it with our flip flops and it stuck like glue. It took a little work to remove it. There were about 4 BP workers about 25 feet from the major part of the oil that was both in the Water and on the beach, but they didn't seem too interested in picking it up. It was to liquidy for their nets, and the small stuff was like black sand. The whole area was less than about 20 feet, but still was surprising to see.

I question fresh oil washing up...as long as it has been since the disaster hit any oil left would be extremely weathered...Are you sure it was oil?

They sunk the oil not far from the beaches. There was dispersant used right here. As for weathering, the liquid sludge is just what they are finding whereever dispersant sank the oil. No surprise here. the oil has been in the sand all summer, you could feel it. Just because our officials were always more concerned for the health of wallets than the health of watermen, they lied to us. They continue to lie, and will brush all concern aside, so they can drill more! And still they get elected !!!

I fear we will have reprocussions for too many years to come

I walked the beach at very low tide this morning, near Eastern Lake, and while I didn't see oil, when I got home my shoes were very gunked-up, which I've never noticed before. Also, the county seems reticent to open up the lake, even though it has been way over the "pop-off point" for several weeks. ??

I walked the beach in Seagrove yesterday and saw lots of tar balls. I also found a large starfish and lots of shells. With all the rough surf last week it must have pushed the oil in. I guess we better get used to it.

There was oil on Blue Mountain Beach yesterday. One of our renters stepped in it and "wipes" took it off his feet.

Friend who spent time in Saudia Arabia says baby oil is the best thing to clean oil off.

I haven't had to get much off because I haven't been going to the beach much - Dawn in the outside shower for when you just have a little residue from tarballs works well.
