One dog, Two Dogs, Three Dogs?

New posts
Wow, I never knew rawhides, etc. were so bad! They only get them maybe once a week, but still. What's so bad about them? Now I'm worried. Rudy, the bigger dog, is what I'd call an aggressive chewer. He has that chew stick done in 2 minutes. So, I suppose that's the danger - - getting stuck in his throat!! (Remember, I've always been a cat person most of my life.)

Well, in the movie, the couple goes to the doggie psychiatrist.

ummmm no. i go the cheap route and kick her a$$ to the hallway or outside when she starts getting too nasty. it can be cute tho, she has to be laying beside him, she lays in his chair when he is working, and she has to be facing him at all times. i didn't know he was that great !

I can't believe you've never heard about that movie. Now I know for sure you're pulling our leg. It's all about show dogs and the people who own them! It's a satire and wickedly funny. One of the dogs does not care for it when his human parents want to make love. It's the opening scene of the movie.
I swear to God, I'm not pulling your leg. That's the way my pup is, and I've never heard of that movie. And I'm not into dog shows, even though apparently from her siblings' successes, mine could be a champion by age 2. I just don't see the point of that unless you're trying to sell pups. Pepper was spayed in November because spaying before the first heat virtually eliminates her chances of breast cancer.

we did the exact same thing with dory - she got spayed the day after she turned 6 months.

Kate and Allie were the exceptions.Yes we have always had a boy and girl. B&G adore each other. They were crate mates. They love to find a sunny spot and snuggle next to each other. The rare times we board them, they are together. They do sleep in seperate crates ( the rare time they are not hogging our bed).

They love to romp and play. The jury is still out when it comes to Camden. They view him as an intruder, so far! :funn: We are working on that socializtion process.
What was crazy with the two poodles was in the wintertime when they both were under the bedcovers. Whenever we would move, they would assume that the other dog was pouncing. So there'd be this big ball of poodles fighting under the covers while we're in deep sleep. One of us would always wake up and separate them. Finally, Mocha learned to share my pillow and let the alpha dog, Chocolat, sleep at the foot of the bed (under the covers).

:floor: From another thread, if we spoil our dogs like this, no wonder our children (or at least mine) are spoiled rotten!

Bailey is the same, spoiled rotten, won't let us speak to each other until she feels she's been greeted with the appropriate length and enthusiasm she deserves.

BR, "Best in Show" is one of the funniest movies ever. All these different couples from different backgrounds (the rednecks, the gay couple, the neurotic yuppies, the rich heiress, etc), all wrapped up in the dog show world. Same guys that did Spinal Tap and Mighty Wind. I never get tired of it.

I've got to get me a copy of that movie. My mom breeds and show Shelties and I'm always preaching to her about it because I just don't agree with bringing more into the world and think mixed pets are just as great but I do try to support her and go with her when I can to these shows and what a joke it is! I think I live the movie :floor:. Who's stabbing who's back then kissing up to your face. And primping the dogs all up with little umbrellas over them and fans on them. :rolling::rolling:And can't forget the one with the nastiest looking dog that apparently knows the judge quite well and just happens to win first place. Got to get a copy of that movie!

BR- we just planned out your weekend for you! You are watching Best In Show! And you are going to wet your pants laughing.

Back to the rawhides, pig ears, etc. You don't know the source of these things- many come from overseas and unsanitary conditions. I mean really, do you think the pig ear processing plant in parts unknown is concerned about cleanliness, since it's customers are dogs? Also, there may be chemicals and additives put on them that are not approved here in the US. Many of these rawhide products are soaked in flavoring- salt. Ask about the source when you buy them, and like GTTBM, buy them way bigger than your dog can ever wrap it's mouth around, and don't leave them unattended!
Some dogs can eat anything and survive it, but I don't want to take the chance and have the million dollar ER vet bill, or worse. Audie- Fiona likes dryer sheets too, but she shreds them, doesn't eat them!

I am sorry I missed the beginning of this thread, but it's so weird that you started it, katie blue. I just had this conversation today with the lady who gave me our precious Maggie (black lab). Lately, she's been impossible to get outside in the mornings when we leave. She heads immediately for her crate and will not come out. We just feel so sorry for her, being in there all day. But she hates going outside unless we go with her. So, my friend and I think that she needs a playmate. But, hubby is dead set against it. Says he spends too much time tending "the herd". We also have two cats inside, and two outside that I adopted when the neighbor moved away and left them. So, I can understand his viewpoint, but I just think Maggie would be a much happier little lab with a friend. Any more ideas on how to convince him? :idontno:

We have a Maggie as well who experienced loneliness when we left. She got to the point where she would chew her body because of her sadness. THe vet was the most convincing person on getting a second dog, so enlist his expertise. He can make a good argument substantiate your want of a second dog....more dogs, more love.

Another reason for 2 dogs....manicures and pedicures. Just finished AM quality time with my dogs. They sit one on each side of me. Maggie showers my hand with kissess, and Sophie adorns my feet with kisses. Where else can I get that treatment 3 or 4 times a day! Unconditional love
