One dog, Two Dogs, Three Dogs?

How now...wait a minute....there's no rush! :D Go ahead and go skiing KB! We're having lots of fun here. Maybe I can get Kali to give her a few Frisbee tips while she's here. ;-)
I wish my Rudy would catch a frisbee. He'll catch a mean ball on the fly, but won't have anyting to do with a frisbee!

That puppy is adorable!
We've been a 2-dog family for about 15 years now, with several overlapping dogs. Our current dogs, Elwood and Rosie, have their moments but they do love each other.
The thing is, when one dog passes away, the left-behind dog seems so lonely.
Rosie was almost paralyzed with sadness when our old 180 lb Tucker passed away; she wouldn't go for walks, etc--so then we got Elwood.
We always seem to get another dog.
Having pets out here, with all the necessary meds (heartworm, Frontline etc) is kind of expensive for a family with 2 mastiffs (and 2 cats--we adopted a stray feral kitty within a month of moving here). And yes, there is pet-sitting or boarding or whatever. But what can I do, I've got one more year and then I'll be an empty-nester, my menagerie will be a comfort then, I think.

That puppy is sooooo adorable! I am of the two dog (or more) opinion. My sister has four (pugs) and my best friend has three (llasa apsoes). After seeing those dogs in action, I can only conclude that having two is a piece of cake. Go for it! :clap_1:

Ok, this pup-rescue adventure is prompting this thread.
I've never had more than one dog at once. Last night my friend told me that "two dogs are better than one. But three dogs are worse than one or two, because things start to get political." Interesting!

What is your experience with one dog vs. two? Is two better than one? Two can keep each other company, sure, but if you travel a lot as we do, it would seem much harder to deal with. You can bring one dog to a friend's house, but not two. We were initially just trying to foster and place this little pup, but I think I may already be in love... ;-) Any thoughts or advice?

edit: sorry Kurt, meant to post this in the Lounge. I can't figure out how to move it...
Since we became homeowners after grad school, we've had one dog (she died), then two dogs (we thought our first dog seemed lonely, but the two fought constantly - I have scars on my arm from separating them), then three dogs (added an outdoor dog for security), then two then one dog (the indoor dogs died), then zero (the outdoor dog died exactly one year ago). It is just so expensive to have three dogs, especially once they get older and get health problems. At one point we had a dog on Science Diet I/D, K/D, and Senior, plus meds.

I like having just one dog now (her one-year birthday is in a week). It's easier for our frequent trips to Seagrove. More than one would be a real pain, not to mention that two crates would take up a lot of space. Even though it's a lot of work and it makes our shopping/dining excursions in ATL shorter, I enjoy having an indoor dog because she's a lot of company for me when my husband is gone.
