No, no, no - much of the computer programming has been outsourced to third world countries. This is a pretty good translation for these people. Unfortunately, it's a major reason why my students have trouble getting jobs in the US of A.

This is exactly correct!! This was most likely someone in Korea. My husband deals with Koreans via email, daily. They try very hard, but he says it's so hard to decipher what they're truly trying to articulate. He says a lot of times it's pretty funny, some of their combination of words. And yes, so much of Motorola's work is sent to Korea. A real dilemma for the college graduates, as you said.

Yeah, I totally understand. When we had our home invasion, I called the Imperial in Toyko and asked for my husband. Our last name has both an "R" and an "L" in it. They have trouble pronouncing those consonants. So I asked to speak to someone who could speak English. The Japanese person on the other end of the phone said, "I speak English." I said, "Obviously not if you can't understand my husband's name." (BTW it's a common dictionary word - if you knew English, you should be able to understand the word.) After about ∞ of time, I finally found someone who understood English and got me through to my husband.

Oh my God that "R" and "L" thing used to drive me nuts. My friend Ron and I worked together at a Japanese company for several years - to this day I call him Lon and he calls me Rinda!

This SO cracks me up!!! I know they try hard to speak the language and God forbid that I would have to speak theirs, but RINDABOBHAT...that's too much! You should be a fly on the wall if I ever have to call for computer help! You've got me, that knows nothing about these things in one corner, and some poor soul across the vast ocean reading off a script and I can only understand every third word they utter! It's a contest to see who can stay on the line longer!!! I must admit...they win everytime! I usually say to them..."Just wait til the father comes home!!"

Or.... you get off the line as quick as you can and call back just hoping and praying that you get a person with and AMERICAN accent..... and you don't even mind waiting the 5 minutes that it takes to get them on the line....
