WTF do you find these things???? :idontno: That is wack!!!

That has been all over the news here. There is going to be a panel discussion at the law school next month about this and other customs which are illegal in this country but widespread and accepted in other countries. I took an elective on contemporary global issues and I had to do a project on female genital mutilation (FGM). I tend to not be a cultural relativst, but this is by far a very very disheartening practice.

we studied this is one of my sociology classes i think it was. it just makes me sick for those poor girls, esp. where it is an accepted part of the culture and they don't know any better.

Khalid Adem, 30, was found guilty of aggravated battery and cruelty to children. Prosecutors said he used scissors to remove his daughter's clitoris in his family's Atlanta-area apartment in 2001. The child's mother, Fortunate Adem, said she did not discover it until more than a year later.

I bet the daughter wishes that she was named after her mother. That is some sick practice.

I also saw on my CNN homepage yesterday where a 19 yo son raped his mother in Ala. That has to be a first. Talk about a sick and dysfunctional family. She was passed out drunk on the couch & then came to. (shivers up my spine)

I guarantee you that is not the first time that has happend, and I am not just talking about in Alabama. There have always been sick people in this world. Today, we just see them in the news more often.
