Outfalls, Gulls and March Storms

Has anyone else noticed larger groups of seagulls gathering along the beach and coastal dune lake outfalls? This group was at Eastern Lake near the end of February enjoying the outfall as it meandered west. The more natural opening provided them a great place to hang out. Water looks really good. Nice mix of fresh and salt.

February 2010 picture. The recent low that just passed here in early March has further smoothed the ridges that had been built up with county digging done months ago. The lake has been open a lot lately on its own and has escaped the unnatural and expensive opening process. A very good thing imho. Recent storms have pushed the outfall up in some places to pre-Ivan 2004 configuration and track. Most of the sand put in, stacked up and pushed about with public dollars has been washed out. The fence built on this public supplied sand continues to erode.

March 2010 picture. Such an ever changing, dynamic process. The sandbar that was clearly visible in the photo above from February 2010, is now covered with water from recent Low/storm that brought rain and a rising tide. The natural process continues to provide a path for the lake to open on its own.

Thanks for posting - the outfall looks good. The gulls know where the food is during the winter.
