Packing Heat in Northern CA

Beach Fanatic
Time for a story, little beach bunnies. Here are three from the recent heat wave, the worst in 57 years in CA. (Ocean fog and cool temps today...ahhh!)

Went to a dinner party where cocktails were served around the pool, then dinner served in the vineyard under a full moon. Before dinner, my girlfriend's very serious hubbie (classical guitarist who wears custom cowboy boots) politely asked our hostess if he could strip off for a swim in the pool, which she agreed to. Guy proceeded to remove every stitch of clothing, jumped into the pool and paddled around as naked as a grape for about 10 minutes. Then casually climbed out, dressed, and joined everyone at the edge of the pool for cocktails. No one said a word, mind you. Didn't hurt that he's a fit tennis pro at the country club!

A widow friend of ours (about 2 years now) is being chased by just about every eligible single woman in town, so the recipient of many a casserole. During the heat, he let the casserole dishes pile up in the kitchen but taped each woman's name to her dish as it was finished. Power went out, humidity went up, tape came off...whose dish went where??? Since he's up for reelection as our Mayor in the fall, he doesn't want to upset anyone, especially the women who talk to everyone. So we suggested that he mix all the dishes up with a few of his own, call all the women and ask them to come over and pick up their dish because he got it mixed up with his. All the dishes were gone inside a week, but our friend lost his own fav lasagna Corning dish. Didn't ask if any of the good ladies met on the steps.

Gardener came to the back deck with a very sad look on one of the hottest days, said he wanted to cut all the blooms from the garden---every single one. When I asked why, he said, "Because they fly." Very sad look. I kept asking what he meant and he finally explained, "Look at them...they fly. They fly. Maybe someday, I fly, too." He was right. Once the poor dried out flowers and buds were cut back, the garden looked much better and soon we will have a new growth.

And how does a Southern girl turn into such a heat sissy, anyway? :idontno:
