Beach Comber
Hey all, just found out were moving to PC for the new job. Were going to start out renting while looking for a place. We've spent a lot of time in SoWal but PC is new to us. We want to be on the water in a nicer location. Did get to see Bunkers Cove and it seemed nice (and has higher elevation?). Was hoping you guys might have some suggestions of places/areas to look at. Thanks.

St Andrews or Bunkers Cove. Doesn't get much better. Just be aware of the paper mill smell in PC when the wind blows from the east. Everyone says that they get used to it and don't notice it after a few weeks of being there. Water front is pricey. I know of a nice, yet small, 1000sq ft home with one car garage and new workshop in the back, in Bunker's Cove, just listed for sale around $170,000 if you are interested. Let me know. It is only one mile to downtown.

We agree with SJ, we used to live over in the Cove many years ago ... absolutely loved it .... enjoyed walking around the cove, down Beach Drive, over to the library, peek around downtown and back home through Massalina Bayou .... something special about the way those old trees canopy the neighborhood .... we do smell the mill when we go there now if the wind is blowing from that direction .... but honestly, you do get used to it .... we don't remember it being any kind of nuisance in our lives in all the years of living there .... St Andrews Bay is charming as well ..... many people seem to really like Lynn Haven --- it's nice too .... just different from the Cove .... but there are some lovely homes on the water there as well ....

I would avoid lynn haven like the plague. the zoning is horrid, the traffic is even worse, and the only upside is the public schools are better than elsewhere in panama city. i would stick to the cove (kids would need to go to holy nativity though) or the beach.

Thanks everyone for the great info. We really liked Bunkers Cove during the brief trip last time. Also the Country Club in Lynn Haven and Kings Point? were other places suggested to us. Is there anything to this greater elevation in the Cove? SJ, we will be looking for a larger home when we decide to pull the trigger. Thanks again for the helpful insider info. Were very excited about the move. :D

I'm not sure what you are referring to by the "greater elevation" in the Cove. Greater than what? It has some high spots.

SJ PM inbound. I'm talking about elevation above sea level. The area was said to be higher on average than others. It's something we had never thought about until our recent trip there and we were told to keep it in mind. Thanks again for all info.

Hope this isn't a duplicate. Hit the wrong button. -- Why don't you just move to SoWal? Commute might be the same. It is four-lane between South Walton and Panama City. If you will be flying often, the new airport is just as close to South Walton as it is to Panama City.:welcome: Glad you will be close.

Buy in PCB, Panama City is old and dumpy. I was born and raised in the cove and moved to the beach the day I graduated high school. Theres nothing in PC, not alot of restaurants, bars, parks, sidewalks. West end of bay County is nice and close to SoWal, plus you can see the beach on your drive home and its cheaper than SoWal.
