Seconding and summarizing Peaboy's points:

1-Dog flies are a nuisance, not a health hazard
2-We still have dog flies despite the spray
3-Tourism revenues don't seem to have been ruined by dog flies
3-The spray is probably a health hazard, and certainly not a health benefit

Sounds like this adds up to a good argument for stopping the spray.

I think Peaboy's letter was published last week in the Sun. It is repeated in this thread under Peaboy's first post. The article from this week's Sun, is posted by SoWalSally. You are correct that the Sun's article does not give much weight to the potential health problems, and almost totally ignores the detriments to the environment and life other than Dog Flies. If it kills Dog Flies, logic would tell me that it probably kills many other insects which will directly affect the lives of all other animals in the food cycle. I am not trying to shoot down any people on planes, nor do I want them trying to kill me either with toxic chemicals. If I want to poison myself, I will go smoke some crack.

There was an article that prompted Peaboy's letter. It is not in the thread. The article posted by SoWal Sally was in the Sun this past weekend in response to Peaboy's letter.

If enough people were aware that SoWal is being sprayed and were upset about it enough not to visit here, the TDC probably would ask the State for us to be removed from the spray zone.

The DC-3 just flew about 100' over the top of my house, spray nozzles obviously blasting away, on a westbound pass just north of the beach. Returned about 10 minutes later, a couple of hundred yards further to the north going eastbound.

Not planning on enjoying the fresh October air until later this afternoon, with all the doors and windows now shut. Oh well...
