if you want to get personal, let's goSounds like a personal problem to me.
Go where?if you want to get personal, let's go
I'm not offended by the flag or monuments that honor the dead. I didn't say you didn't have a right to be offended but if everyone isn't offended and you are then whose problem is it?
you have no logic to your argument so you insult the poster. it's pure, zero sum game, visceral redneck boilerplate. these wonderful monuments honoring the war dead of a treasonous and criminal cause defending slavery were mostly erected when lynching was a public event. you don't have a problem with "it" because you speak from the viewpoint of white privilege and denial. not a problem for you? it must be okie dokie. try this on for size. your viewpoint has no virtue.
Yes, you did insult with your passive aggressive "personal problem". I did not say you have no virtue. Go back and read the post. I said your viewpoint on this issue has no virtue. If you are white, and I suspect you are lily white, then you speak from a viewpoint of societal privilege. You certainly have the right to say what you think.First of all, I didn't insult you. I'm not from the privileged class as you call it and have never defended slavery. Had you taken the opportunity to actually read the current petition it's not solely about the confederate war but about all monuments and memorials honoring the dead which would include past presidents who actually owned slaves.
I've never condoned or supported public lynchings either but that is part of Americas history which thankfully today is illegal.
Saying I have no virtue...well, you don't know me and you wouldn't know me if we passed on the street so how could you possibly know anything about my virtues? You want to make this a personal attack yet, I did not attack you.

Bob please be careful. There may be ghosts in them thar memorials which may hook onto you as you push them overboard...Let's start at Monument Blvd. in Richmond Va., work south toward Walton County, and take every Confederate memorial down. We can then tow them out in the Gulf and make an artificial reef. Call it Jebby Stuart's fishin spot, or Nathan Bedford Forrest's honey hole. It will mark the first time they ever did any good for our society.
try to consider a world beyond your fingernails. imagine what it would be like to walk by a monument in a public place honoring the efforts of soldiers who wanted to keep your progenitors in chains. if you could summon enough empathy in that powerhouse mind of yours, you might see how very wrong you are on this issue. the reef idea is to take bad ideas and put it to good use, not to change history. we can't change our past, but we can change our thinking. at least some folks can.You have the right to be offended regardless of what color I am but yes in fact I am white. I never owned slaves and I'm not responsible for things that occurred decades ago but neither am I anal enough to believe that I can simply erase history because I'm offended by events I can't change, that no one should be proud of. You seem to think that creating a reef of monuments and memorials will somehow change centuries of depravity but I believe you know that isn't reality.
I don't have the time or inclination to right all the wrongs that are, will be, or have been committed in this country and I don't take them personally or make them my personal problem. I also try to be realistic about those things which I can change and try my best to be a moral, honest and respectable person. I've said many times people have the right to be offended but you don't have the right to silence a majority of people because you are offended.
