What I don't quite understand is, with all the talk coming from Andy about courageous Americans defending this United States, and the American flag, why is he defending the Confederacy, which waged war against the United States and the freedoms that have been defended in every other war we waged. The Confederacy stood for treason against the Republic.

Nope. Your history is very one sided. You need to read more. Our Constitution did not prevent States from succeeding. Abraham Lincoln could have prevented this war. Read Sanderson Beck's "Abraham Lincoln". This author/historian was born and raised in California and he is not biased one way or the other.

Plus, by your logic we would never have waged war against a tyrannical Great Britain and therefore would still be under their power. Did anything good come out of the War Between the States? Complex answer. Yes in that slavery ended. No in that slavery could have ended anyway if Abraham Lincoln had not have taken such a hard line and negotiated away slavery. The Southern politicians wanted to negotiate taxation and good Ole Abe was under the arm of Northern industrialists. He could have said, Okay if you free your slaves then I will free you of this taxation but for the politics of who supported him.

Seriously, you need to read more about what happened and why it happened because you have very limited information. Another thing. You say you are a Southerner. What State and County did you grow up?

You have to know Bob to get his humor, I suppose - it's not average by any means, and I don't have to agree with his position to appreciate it. I've known bob for years and never met him, though got to meet his beautiful daughter last year when she stopped in the office to say hello.

I was born in Virginia, lived in Selma for 5 years, Tallahassee for eight years, and South Walton County for 30 years. As a child I glorified the Civil War. As an adult I recognized it as a dismal, pathetic, chapter in the history of the United States.

If Bob a professional comedian then yes. But if Bob is posting in a forum about a controversial subject then NO! If you want to belittle and disrespect people that is your right but it is inappropriate and has nothing to do with intelligence or humor.

War is war and if you are fighting for your family, your land and your fellow soldier it is EXTREMELY HONORABLE. Then if you are fighting with your own weapon, no shoes, very little food, against superior weaponry and out numbered as much as 5 to 1 you are a HERO in my little book. That flag symbolizes a uniquely loyal and tough young man and all of you who desecrate that soldier are not very intelligent (about who these soldiers are and what they fought for).
