Petreaus: Burning Qurans = Lives at Risk

New posts
We have a volunteer military - they chose to enlist. We choose to continue fighting the elusive terrorists on their land. In a free society, there are many choices and with those choices come respective responsibility and accountability. Likewise, our media chooses to cover events all the time, which can be detrimental to themselves as well as others. Plain crazy, isn't it?

I guess I am an optimist and see the benefit of the "do unto others". I think we should be setting a good example, instead of getting in the gutter and being just like those who are unjust to us. Isn't that the Christian way, or was I duped in Sunday school?

I agree. But, others don't feel that way and it's their right. The Pastor has made his decision and our media equally made theirs.

I'm not about to say there are two sides to this issue, but the actions of this pastor have brought to light the issue of violent Muslim extremism. It's the idea that if you offend somebody or don't cater to their whims, they'll blow themselves up and take you along with them. Isn't that what we are supposed to be fighting against?

Well now another issue has come to light. Imam: Moving Islamic center will spur extremists - U.S. news - msnbc.com

The imam behind a proposed Islamic community center and mosque near ground zero cautioned Wednesday that moving the facility could cause a violent backlash from Muslim extremists and endanger national security.

Can this be construed as anything but a threat? As a nation are we supposed to let the threat of extremist backlash dictate our policies? Again, this is what we are supposed to be fighting against. So while I have no problem whatsoever with the mosque being built, we cannot tolerate violent backlash from anybody no matter how gravely they have been offended or how unfairly they think they have been treated. We have courts and a legal system to handle such matters.

I know. With our freedoms, this is most definitely a Classic Catch-22. Personally, I say, "Full steam ahead." Terrorists and their followers are pathetic, spineless cowards. We should never bow down to them, succumb to their demands or give them an inch to destroy our Constitution and freedom........regardless of the issues or threats they toss our way. The nice Muslims who want to live here need to giddy up to the way we respect all and that is a two way street.

the extremists are a threat no matter how respectful we are of them.

Is it really a Koran?

My understanding has always been that a Koran is not a Koran unless it in the original Aramaic. Here is mention of that fact in a Newsweek article:

For the same reason, translations of the Qur'an are never considered authentic.

As a kid, my Parent's church had copies of the Torah and the Koran, but both were in English as no one read Hebrew or Aramaic. There was some material in Greek, but I think a lot of seminary students learned Greek in those days.

I'd be surprised if this little rinky-dink church has a copy in Aramaic.

Its interesting that the media chooses to totally ignore this.

Something that no one has mentioned is that according to Buzz's link to the Islamic news site, the pastor has received more than 100 death threats since announcing his plan to burn the Korans. Where is the outcry? Probably won't get any, even though what he is doing is completely legal, though socially unacceptable in most everyone's opinion. :idontno:

Is anyone surprised at all that our media does not report news, but rather chooses the path of sensationalism?

I didn't know the Koran had to be in Aramaic to be official - learn something new everyday.
