Petreaus: Burning Qurans = Lives at Risk

New posts
The auotes from Obama Calls for Religious Tolerance as Protests Persist are interesting. I did not hear the event, so all I know is what I read in this NYT article.

President Obama gave an impassioned call on Friday for tolerance and better relations between Muslims and non-Muslims at home and abroad, defending the ?inalienable rights? of those who worship Islam to practice their religion freely.

Asked about whether an Islamic center should be built a few blocks from the site of the Sept. 11 attacks, Mr. Obama reiterated his position that Muslims have the right to build a mosque on the site.

?This country stands for the proposition that all men and women are created equal, that they have certain inalienable rights,? Mr. Obama said. ?And what that means is that if you could build a church on a site, you could build a synagogue on a site, if you could build a Hindu temple on a site, then you should be able to build a mosque on the site.?

?We?ve got millions of Muslim Americans, our fellow citizens, in this country,? Mr. Obama said. ?They?re going to school with our kids. They?re our neighbors. They?re our friends. They?re our co-workers. And when we start acting as if their religion is somehow offensive, what are we saying to them??

Its interesting that, based on what he said, that Muslims deserve tolerance and freedom, but, apparently people who disagree with them do not.

This did not become an issue until the General came out against it. Then conservatives responded.
The big issues are jobs, government spending, the deficit, big government and taxes. Hopefully we can keep our eyes on the ball.

You are absolutely right and you are wrong too. The likes of conservative Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich (who co-chair the Republican Party basically?) have been stoking the fires of this controversy and Ground Zero controversy in order to cause the Obama Administration to stumble and get off point.

If the Conservatives/Republicans/Tea Party had any real guts or care for our country they would they have kept their eyes consistently "on the ball" just as you stated, and on message with our concerns, your concerns. They want to play politics instead.

That's because.... surprise, Obama is a pansy. It takes a Carter to get a Reagan. Obama is our generational Carter only worse.

That makes a lot of sense. Basketball in highschool makes him a strong leader? Your bar is set incredibly low.

I suppose to some having a president who actually believes in diplomacy instead of war mongering rhetoric would be a hard pill to swallow. I guess he missed those required John Wayne movies while attending political science classes in college.

No I fear he lacks real world experience. You can't learn this through books. For being such an educated man he's misfiring on all pistons. I guess I would give him more credit if he could talk without telepromters at elementary schools.

I really don't think Putin or Ahmadinejad give a crap where Obama went to school. Do you?

I definitely agree that there's a control issue here.
It's more like U.S. government/foreign religion psychological warfare. I say foreign cause I don't think any of the founding fathers were muslim.
What the hell is the U.S. doing bowing down in fear to support a comment from this Imam saying that if a mosque is not built near ground zero that we should be afraid of what the "radicals" would do, that our national security would be at risk?
Just like you said before, that is a veiled threat.
That pissed me off.
Hell no.
I didn't have a major problem with them building a mosque there in the beginning, but now that they are talking, the comments out of their mouths are making me suspicious of what is going on. Why all this pussyfooting around from the government when this Imam is trying to use psychological control to get his way.
My radar is up on this issue at this point. I've seen these type tactics before- wake up people- a snake is in the camp. The door for me to agree with a mosque in this area is closing quickly. I would love to be wrong about this, but cannot ignore what he is saying.
I get the feeling of someone coming to burn my house down, then when I get another one built, they want to move into that one with me and not only that, but to bring their friends to stay there too, and not only that, but to move me out.
If I harbored prejudice, I would question my motives, but I am just going by what he himself said.

FOXNews.com - Assailants stab, beat Christian worshippers outside of Indonesia's capital
test=latestnews

Leading the charge against the Batak Christians has been the Islamic Defenders Front, which is pushing for the implementation of Islamic-based laws in Bekasi and other parts of the nation.

They are known for smashing bars, attacking transvestites and going after those considered blasphemous with bamboo clubs and stones. Perpetrators are rarely punished or even questioned by police.

The front also pressured local authorities early this year to shutter the Batak church, located in a densley populated Mulsim area, saying the permit was granted without the required approval of residents.

The Christian worshippers have refused to back down. Every week, about 20 or so return to the field to pray, defying threats and intimidation.
